Respectful Relationships & Wellbeing News

Berry Street and Respectful Relationships

Welcome back to another exciting year at Sacred Heart and one where we hope to build on our wellbeing programs we established at the school in the last few years. It has been great seeing the students working on their individual ready to learn plans which help students establish what it is they need to get the best out of each day and lesson. The whole school will have these at the front of their wellbeing books and we will revisit them as the year goes on as a constant reminder of the benefits of being in a healthy mindset.

What does being ready to learn look like for me?What can my teacher do to help me be ready to learn?

It has also been brilliant to see all the classes starting the Respectful Relationships lessons to start the year and hit the ground running from day 1. The Respectful Relationships program supports schools to promote and model respect, positive attitudes and behaviours. It teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence.

Taking a whole-school approach is about embedding a culture of respect and equality across an entire school community, from our classrooms to staff-rooms, sporting fields, fetes and social events. This approach leads to positive impacts on students’ academic outcomes, mental health, classroom behaviour, and relationships between teachers.

The resource kit provides tools, advice and strategies to guide Respectful Relationships leading and partner schools through a framework implementing the six core elements of the Respectful Relationships whole-school approach:

  • Leadership and commitment
  • School culture and learning
  • Professional learning
  • Teaching and learning
  • Community partnerships
  • Support for staff and students
