REC News

Dear Parents / Carers

A warm welcome to our new St Anthony’s families who join us this year and to our wonderful returning school community. May our faith commitment once again bring us together. We have an exciting year ahead with many special celebrations to share together. I look forward to working with teachers and families to develop our students’ knowledge, faith and love for Jesus.

Theme for 2023

Each year, a theme is created for Sydney Catholic Schools that is centered on Pope Francis’ message for youth and the Churches’ WYD themes. The theme for 2023 is:

Walking with the Holy Spirit in Our Hearts - “Mary arose and went with haste” (Lk 1:39). Mary was full of JOY. Mary is leading us to JOY: joy filled news that the Christ was to come which heralds the salvation of humankind.

It is with sadness that we announce that Father Pierluigi Passoni is leaving the St Anthony's Parish. We welcome Father Laurie Cauchi who will commence on the 1st March. As a school community we look forward to working with him in the year ahead. There will be a Family Mass and BBQ on Saturday 4th March at 5pm - to welcome Father Laurie.

During the Christmas holidays I was given the opportunity to study at the Centre for Missionary Leadership (Arete) for 2023. I attended an initial 'intensive retreat' for four days and will begin my studies in February. Our Family Educator - Laura was part of the team that presented and taught at the Retreat. Here is some information about the Centre for Missionary Leadership:

The Areté Centre is an important expression of the Missionaries of God’s Love’s charism, as the MGL congregation has been committed to the formation of lay people as disciples, missionaries, and as leaders in the Church since its founding in 1986.

The Areté Centre’s Foundations of Missionary Leadership course draws upon Fr Chris’ practical experience and doctoral research in evangelisation and leadership formation, as well as the formation provided by a gifted and diverse faculty consisting of Missionaries of God’s Love priests, sisters, and lay leaders.

The Areté network provides an ongoing community for the graduates of the Foundations course so that a body of passionate, faith-filled, gifted and equipped leaders will emerge that can make an important contribution to the renewal of the Church. (Taken from aretecentre.org)
