LACROSSE CLINICS

During term 4 junior sport, the Years 7 & 8 Lacrosse students have been enjoying some clinics run by Caulfield Lacrosse Club.

Each term the Sport department applies for a grant from Sporting Schools, a Government initiative designed to increase young people's participation in sport and connect them with local community sport opportunities. This term we applied for funding to run a Lacrosse programme, to enable us to get expert coaches from local clubs to showcase the sport and provide invaluable coaching experiences for our students.

The Lacrosse group has over 100 students participating in the sport on Tuesday and Friday afternoons, and the sessions have been a fun experience allowing students to learn new skills and apply them to a largely unfamiliar sport.

Although not a mainstream sport in Australia, Lacrosse is hugely popular in North America, Canada and across Europe, with its origins being from Indigenous Canada. This hugely popular global sport is gaining popularity in Australia with more clubs forming within local communities in Melbourne, providing opportunities for people to enjoy the sport.
