For the love of food

The Catering Challenge
Our year 10 students had a brisk walk to local café Mary Miller to be given a brief outline on life working in a café and life as a barista. As they enjoyed a hot drink and chocolate brownie they learnt of food trends, customer service and attributes needed to work with the public. I think ears picked up when they were told how Chloe was able to work in every country she visited whilst traveling as a barista.
Hot Potatoes
Year 7 are exploring protein and the different types of protein we can have in our daily diet. The students made a stuffed potato. To ensure it was healthy, appealing and filling they had a selection of ingredients to add. We discussed how this can fit into our diet as being a quick, versatile and healthy food choice.
Scrumdidlyumptious was the response from 7D.
A Literary Feast
For this year’s Literary Festival, the Year 9 #We Love Food class are using the event to complete their second assessment task for the semester.
For their assessment students are following the Design Process to prepare a ‘Literary Feast’. The food they prepare must have a literary theme (Harry Potter Rock Cakes, Miss Trunchbowl’s Chocolate cake from Matilda etc). All the food they prepare will be available for purchase at the Literary Fest.
If you’re coming to the Literary Fest, make sure you head down to the stall and test your food in literature knowledge – can you guess the source of inspiration. You will also be able to team your purchase with coffee prepared by the Year 10 Catering Challenge students.
"‘This is Ron,’ Harry told Hagrid, who was pouring boiling water into a large teapot and putting rock cakes onto a plate………….The rock cakes almost broke their teeth, but Harry and Ron pretended to be enjoying them as they told Hagrid all about their first lessons."
