Caring for our earth

August 2018 Landcare Camp
Last week a group of intrepid students ventured to the school camp at Boho South for the annual Green Team Landcare Camp. We were once again lucky enough to work with the Regent Honeyeater project near Benalla.
This year the students had the important task of planting in the projects seed orchard. The purpose of the seed orchard is to produce seed from endangered plants in the area. The original seeds were collected from wild populations of these plants from different locations. As the plants are from different locations they will be able to cross-pollinate to increase genetic diversity in the new seeds. Once the new plants are established the project team will harvest the seeds to propagate new plants for planting out in restoration areas.
The weather was warm and sunny and the students had a great time.
