Primary School

Hello to all families

I’d like to wish you all a wonderful end of semester break. It’s been a productive semester with so many variables thrown our way including lock downs and remote learning. We all deserve a lovely break I think!

I had the opportunity to read all of the students' reports over the course of this week. This process gives me the opportunity to be a part of every individual student's learning journey. I applaud the work that each student has put in over the semester. We are so fortunate to be a part of such a dynamic teaching and learning community. I hope you enjoy reading the reports as much as I did.

Yesterday I was asked to come and be in the audience for a special presentation hosted by the 3/ 4 Reggio Main Program class. They have been working on a fascinating project based on the theme of ‘Voice’.

The students have worked on creating a podcast called ‘Fidget Kids’ which can be heard on the local radio station 3CR website. There is a current link available for this.

The class asked the volunteers and others involved in the creation of the podcast to join them in celebrating the learning. It was a wonderful event and I’m so proud of what the students achieved. Such engaging learning provided by the 3/ 4 teachers.

A great way to celebrate learning at the end of the term!

Have a wonderful break everyone

The Melbourne Festival Rising

A variety of arts organisations, community groups and Year 5/6 students at Collingwood College have created lanterns to form a 200-metre-long, glowing eel skeleton, a collaborative public art piece which was on display in the Yarra River behind Federation Square.  Families from Prep to Year Six were invited to go and have a look.  I received emails from families who went to see it and a special thanks to Leo’s family in Year 1/2 for the photos.

3-4 REGGIO 3CR FIDGET KIDS PODCAST

Well! What is this podcast all about?

Year 3-4 Reggio have been going in small groups to the 3CR Radio Station nearby our school.

Kids did interviews with a big mix of people including artists, ethicists, olympians and chefs.

We made up questions before we went to the radio station and then asked them during the interviews.

"If you make a mistake, do you scrap your work?" was a question asked of U.B. an artist.

"I got to hear very spooky stories from Trevor who told ghost stories at the Old Melbourne Jail," said one of the kids.

If you want to know more about the interviews then click on the link to listen to the Fidget Kids Podcast:

The Fidget Kids Podcast was cool because we got to go to a radio station and we got to see the main room with all the recording equipment. There were wires, microphones, knobs and levers in the studio.

Class 6 Steiner's Winter Eurythmy Presentation

On Thursday, 17th June Class 6 Steiner presented their midwinter Eurythmy for Gabrielle's Class 1 and Frank and Nick's Class 5s. Holding tea-lights in the darkened dance studio,  Class 6 moved whilst singing a beautiful astronomy-themed round and accompanied by Vera's piano music. They moved harmoniously and it was very beautiful. The audience of children were in awe and watched silently.
