Principal's Report

Dear Collingwood College,

It has been a very happy and productive term and thankfully we have made it through despite periods of interruption with remote and flexible learning.   As always, our students, parents, carers and staff have given their best and done a great job.  A huge thanks to you all.

COVID-19

The Victorian Government has announced further easing of restrictions under COVIDSafe Settings, effective from 11.59pm Thursday, 24 June 2021.

On the advice of the Victorian Chief Health Officer, the easing of restrictions in regional Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne will remain in place for at least two weeks.

Key changes in the easing of restrictions include:

Density limits:

In regional Victoria, a density limit of 1 person per 2 square metres applies to staff areas, such as staff lunchrooms, and areas accessed by the public, such as reception areas.

In metropolitan Melbourne, a density limit of 1 person per 4 square metres still applies to these areas.

Importantly, over the school holiday period there has been no change to the face mask advice, which will continue to apply to all Outside School Hours Care holiday programs.

  • Secondary school students aged 12 or older must carry a face mask at all times and wear a face mask indoors when at school, including when attending an Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) program, unless a lawful exception applies. Face masks are recommended to be worn outdoors where physical distancing of 1.5m cannot be maintained.
  • Children under 12 years of age and students at primary school are not required to wear face masks when at school, or when attending an OSHC program.
  • Face masks are mandatory for all school students aged 12 or older on public transport and when in taxis or ride share vehicles. This includes travelling to and from school on public transport or in a vehicle with others not from your household.
  • Visitors and parents must also observe face mask requirements.

A reminder that parents, carers, and visitors can enter school grounds, however they must adhere to density limits and check-in using the QR codes

Staffing

This Friday, our Academic Facilitator and Daily organiser, Jonjie Beltran, will be finishing at Collingwood College. Jonjie will be studying full time to become a teacher.  We wish Jonjie best wishes in his studies, and we are proud to say that he has chosen a wonderful future career path!

Lisa Bianchi remains on leave for Term 3. Frank Stanley is also on leave for Semester 2.   Leadership will announce his replacement teacher to families shortly.

While we say farewell to Lam Truong, our Multicultural Aide, we say welcome back to Katie McLachlan next term as she returns from Maternity leave.

Katherine Fiel has started with us as Wellbeing Officer.  Janine Breadmore has started as MYLNS support at Collingwood Alternative School and also at Collingwood College.

Gasworks - Gasworks Senior Secondary Campus (interim name).

The building of the new senior secondary campus of Collingwood College and Fitzroy High School is going very well. As already communicated on our websites, a fly-through of the campus can be seen here:

The Victorian School Building Authority website has authoritative updates on the campus progress:

https://www.schoolbuildings.vic.gov.au/schools/Pages/FitzroyGasworksSeniorCampus.aspx

A virtual public event will be announced shortly. This will give members of both school communities the opportunity to find out more about the campus and the educational programs being offered and to ask questions of both the architects and the schools.

Buildings and Grounds

Working Bee.  Please add to your calendar Saturday 31st July.  Lots of planting around the front fence of the school as well as a general tidy. Stay tuned for more information early next term.

Are you a Solar Power expert?  Buildings and grounds would like to make contact with any experts in this field. We are developing a plan for the unused roof space on the main building.  We also believe there are grants available to support a large-scale project.  Please make contact through collingwood.co@education.vic.gov.au if you can help!

Junior School Garden.  Funds still remain allocated for an upgrade to our paths and garden beds within this area.  A master plan is under development.  Again, please make contact with the school should you have something you can offer, otherwise we are keen to establish a forum for community input in the second half of the year.

Student Free Day

Just a reminder that we will be having a student free day for years P-10 on Thursday 29th July.  This is scheduled to align with the GAT to minimise interruptions for students in our Senior Years.  More information to come early next term.

Have a fabulous holiday period,

Kind Regards,

Sam Luck
