Art News

iN THE aRT ROOM…

Dear Parents,

Firstly, we have some EXCITING NEWS to share!

Mr. Wursthorn has been extremely gracious in allowing our school to purchase 6 brand new sewing machines for our students to use under supervised classes. These sewing machines will initially form part of the senior Art classes and in time, I hope to conduct a lunchtime sewing club giving students further opportunities to work on small community based projects. There will also be school based projects in which the machines will be used under the guidance of our leadership team when working on initiatives such as the Repurposed Fashion program conducted in 2019.

Stay tuned for further updates!

Students from Grades Prep to Six are currently working with threads and textiles and I am particularly looking for any donations of

brightly coloured wool

buttons

and/or scraps of fabric.

If you are able to spare any of these items, please send them to school along with your child preferably on a Monday – Thursday.

Important!

As we continue to create art works in class, students are required to place their completed pieces in their A3 Portfolios. Some students however have yet to return these to school from their previous year. It would be greatly appreciated if all portfolios please be sent to school ASAP.

Please note this item is listed on the School Booklist in Prep and is retained and re used every year until your child leaves school.

Finally, here are a few quotes and snapshots taken during the Grade 5 classes this week where students have been practising some basic stitches in hand sewing.

“I feel like sewing a dress now!”

“I’m going to go home and sew the hole in my top!”

“Can I please have more thread? I want to keep sewing!”

“Can we stay here and do this all day?”

Thank you,

Mrs. Ivana Dabb
