School Closure Day - Next Monday 17th May - Teacher Professional Development

Monday 17th May will be a student-free day to allow teachers to engage in professional learning activities.  Beyond Edu Care will have a Day program available for families who would like to utilise this service. Please see the newsletter section for details.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Mother’s Day 2021

I hope and pray that all the mothers, grandmothers and “mother-like” women in our school community were able to feel the love and appreciation from their families over the weekend.  A big thank you to the Parents’ Association for hosting a very well organised Mother’s Day stall for our students.  The children were very excited to be able to buy something for their mum.

Over the weekend we shared a video with families of our school Mother’s Day liturgy hosted by Year 2.  A big thank you to the Year 2 students and their teachers for leading our school community in the liturgy where we say thank you to God for the gift of motherhood and for all the love that our mums, grandmothers and “mother-like” women bring into our lives.

Finally, I would like to share with you a song that was released last year for Mother’s Day by the Australian pop band Sheppard.  Titled “Thank You”, sibling band members George, Amy and Emma Sheppard wrote this song for their mum as a gesture of love and appreciation for her.  It’s a heartfelt catchy song that you might like to share with your families at this time.

NAPLAN

This week primary schools across the country commence the NAPLAN assessment for Years 3 and 5 students in the areas of Literacy and Mathematics.  Our school leaders and class teachers have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of NAPLAN for our students.  Assessment of learning is part of the teaching and learning cycle and NAPLAN is but one of the many measures that give an indication of how a student is performing in the areas of Literacy and Mathematics.  We know that students may be feeling a range of emotions at this time. Reassurance and support from home and school is the best way to help students realise that NAPLAN is just another assessment activity in the learning journey that is designed to help parents and teachers know what the next step is in the child’s learning journey.

If you have any questions please raise them with your child’s classroom teacher or a member of the school leadership team.

Toilet Refurbishment Update

The first of two student toilet block refurbishments will be completed this week.  These much-needed works will mean that students have access to completely refurbished toilet facilities with improved lighting, ventilation and new toilet and basin hardware throughout.

Upon the reopening of the North Toilet block, refurbishment works will commence on the South block (toilets closest to the basketball).  Thank you to our school maintenance team Keith and Adam for project managing these works for our school community.

School Library Update - Call for parent helpers

We are currently awaiting delivery of new furniture and shelving for our newly refurbished library.  When this arrives we will need some assistance from parent helpers to begin the process of reshelving the 20,000 books and items we have in our library.

At this stage we don’t know exactly when this help will be required however if you would give an indication of a day\s of the week you might be able to help for an hour or so, we would be very appreciative.

Please click here to share availability.

In line with Child Safety Standards, please note that all parents helpers must have current Working with Children Check and a signed Child Safety Code of Conduct.

God bless
