Become ISQua's next Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal for Quality in Health Care

Paul Kidd, Health Sciences Publisher for Oxford Journals (OUP) shares his thoughts on the type of person required for this position: 

'The role of Editor-in-Chief is of vital importance to the ongoing development of IJQHC. He or she is the ‘face’ of the journal who oversees engagement with readers and authors, and ultimately gives IJQHC its voice on the key issues in the field today'

Responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief:

  • Assumes overall editorial responsibility for the journal
  • Acts as the journal ‘ambassador’.
  • Defines and updates the journal scope and acceptance criteria (with consideration of the journal page budget), with input from ISQua and OUP.
  • Assumes responsibility for the timely delivery of high quality and appropriate content to OUP for subsequent publication in the Journal.
  •  Works with OUP and ISQua on journal direction, policies, innovation and development.
  • Assumes responsibility for clearly defining and implementing the journal’s ethical standards.
  • Pre-screens submissions, deciding which papers should be rejected without review, thus helping to ensure that standards are maintained overall.
  • Manuscript handling as relevant – assigning referees and seeing manuscripts through to acceptance/rejection.
  • Assigns appropriate Deputy Editors to handle some manuscripts.
  • Provides advice and support as needed to Deputy Editors with regards to individual submissions.
  • Writes/commissions editorials, reviews etc.
  • Recommends the appointment of Deputy Editors and the Editorial Committee, in consultation with ISQua and OUP.
