Hello Everyone,

We can't believe we are already in

Term 4!

 

Term 3 was fun filled, including our excursion to the Melbourne Museum and IMAX, the Green Hats Maths Workshop, Bike Ed, PJ Day and many more activities!

We have an action-packed term ahead

of us with a number of extra-curricular

events for our Year Five Students.

These include:

-The Black Rock P.S. Fete

-Footsteps Dance Lessons

-The Year 5/6 Social

-The Swimming Program

Swimming Program

Our intensive “Swim and Survive”

program will commence this year on

Monday 19th November. This year the

children will participate in nine lessons

over nine days. The Swimming Program

is an important part of the Health and

Physical Education Curriculum.

Permission forms will be sent out on

Compass shortly.

English

Speaking and Listening

Students will complete activities that require listening to discussions, contributing their own ideas and responding to others. They will present their own information to peers through individual and group presentations and

performances. 

 

Reading and Viewing

Literacy circles will continue through Term Four along with our CAFE Reading Program. They will focus on improving their comprehension,

accuracy, fluency and vocabulary, while

analysing both fiction and factual texts

in depth. Through literacy circles students will  continue to explore their understanding of the language and features of different texts, develop comprehension skills and analyse and make judgments using evidence from what they read.

 

Writing

During Writing this term, we will be

looking at book reports and speech

writing, with an emphasis on the proofreading

and editing stage of the writing

process to improve the standard of

published work.

Mathematics

This term, students will continue to extend their knowledge of number through developing their understanding of patterns and algebra. They will further advance their understanding location and transformations. Students will also explore measurement concepts mass, time and temperature. 

Unit of Inquiry

This term we will be exploring the unit "Earth's Place in Space" as our Science Unit of Inquiry. This unit provides opportunities for students to explore how the patterns in the sky relate to days, months and years. They will build on their understanding of how observation and models can be used to shape ideas and understandings is developed through hands-on activities and student-planned investigations.

Students will also investigate the elements of our Solar System and Earth’s position within it.

Homework

In Term Four, students will undertake a Community Project. It is expected that students will be completing this throughout the term. Students will also be assigned other weekly tasks including spelling and Mathletics.
