Literacy:
This term we will be focusing on recognising letters and identifying them by their correct alphabetical name. Students will build their understanding of how letters make sounds when they are in words and how they can make alternate sounds in different words. They will also learn the importance of the relationship between pictures and text which is crucial for early reading and writing.
Numeracy:
This term we will be learning about number, duration of time (days of the week), order, patterns and counting.
Inquiry:
Throughout all this term’s learning we will be exploring the question, ‘How can I be a positive member of Barwon Heads Primary School?’
They will be investigating this through:
- Identifying their role in the classroom
- Identifying appropriate behaviours in the classroom
- Understanding how their words and actions
- Developing a growth mindset
- Learning how to ask questions and the difference between a question and a statement
Positive Education:
This term the students will begin to explore the 24 VIA Character Strengths as part of our wellbeing program. We will be focusing on a character strength each week in class and students will receive awards at Assembly based on that strength. One award will be chosen by the teacher and the other by their peers. Research has shown that developing an understanding of Character Strengths can have a significant, positive impact on people’s lives. Using Character Strengths can help to improve relationships, resilience and wellbeing.
