School Sport

We Are Back! 2023! The year that school sport resumes, and it is all happening here at Bairnsdale Secondary College.

Swimming Carnival

What a day!

The weather turned it on for us and we had a stunning (and very hot) day down at the Bairnsdale Outdoor Pool. It was so great to see students and staff getting involved in the day and all the hard work behind the scenes paying off ten fold for such a great day. Even though all house areas had to be shuffled on the morning of to find some much needed shade, it was still a great vibe with music pumping throughout the day. Having not been able to hold a carnival for many years, it was fantastic to see over 600 students attending and the feedback has been that it was a great day.

Congratulations to the VM students and team who held a wonderful BBQ and stall raising funds for Relay for Life.

Congratulations to all students who won ribbons and have made it through to the East Gippsland Swimming and will be representing our College on the 2nd March. The list will be published shortly and Compass Permissions will be made accessible this week.

Interschool Sport

We have had a strong start to interschool sport this year with hundreds of students utilising the online sign-up system. The Term 2 sign ups will be open shortly, and these will be accessible on the Compass Newsfeed. Students are reminded that they will need to use their @bairnsdalesc.vic.edu.au email address to access the sign ups, it is a closed document.

Student permissions for interschool sport are to be completed through the Compass Portal, and the due date of these permissions is listed on the event information. If teams do not have enough players with permission within 3 days of the event date, the team will unfortunately have to be withdrawn.

For students representing the College, they are expected to abide by the following Code of Behaviour.

All players will:

  1. Demonstrate the school values (Respect, Responsibility and Resilience) both at the College, and on the sports field
  2. Be in class, on time and following teacher instructions
  3. When competing, respect the rules and always abide by the referee’s/umpire’s decisions
  4. At all times co-operate with their coach, team mates and opponents
  5. Wear BSC school uniform to and from school, changing into sport uniform before departing for the sport venue (Please see uniform policy if unsure)

The school may withdraw the privilege of representing our College if a serious breach of this Code of Behaviour occurs or if there is a recurrent breach of this Code of Behaviour after a warning has been given. This has been discussed and decision made in consultation with the Learning Hubs and school leadership.

Lunchtime Activities

Sport never sleeps at BSC, there is always something to be part of and to do.

If you wish to borrow equipment at lunch time, please see your Hub team. There will be a range of equipment set up during lunch times for students to utilise. We are part of Active Schools Victoria so it is great seeing so many students and staff engaging in physical activity at lunch times.

The Gaga Pit is a never ending go to place for students. However, students need to remember that we are not playing for gold medals and that our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience need to be demonstrated during the games. Unfortunately, there have been many instances that students have reported negative instances within the Gaga games and this is unacceptable. Play kindly or don’t play at all.

We have also had a recent delivery of totem tennis, 4-way volleyball, spike ball sets and tether ball sets which I can’t wait to see set up and being used. The ever popular table tennis tables are in constant rotation, if more bats or balls are required please see the Hub.
