Spotlight on Learning

K-2

2J have settled well into Year 2 and have been aspiring to do their best all week. The class began the week by listening to the story “Welcome to Country” by Aunty Joy Murphy, an Aboriginal Elder of the Wurundjeri People. As a class we discussed why she wrote the text and why she could give a Welcome to Country on Wurundjeri land. At Roselea we give an Acknowledgment to Country. 2J shared what makes them feel welcome and how we could make others feel welcome at Roselea. We also participated in a yarning circle and I was very impressed with how everyone shared and listened with respect.

2J’s favourite maths activity for the week was using the pattern blocks to compare the similarities and differences of 2D shapes. They discovered how triangles can be moved around to create new shapes.

We look forward to seeing you all at our Meet The Teacher Night on Thursday 9th February.

Stage 2

After a much needed summer holiday break, our 3S students have transitioned back into school with ease and excitement!

On the first day back, our students hit the ground running by collaboratively creating a list of class rules, outlining what a safe and active learning environment looks like. They persevered through a number of assessments for learning over the next few days and explored the language features of narrative. 3S students are now using a broad range of saying verbs instead of repetitively using the word ‘said’!

As part of being in Year 3 (first year of primary), our students also learnt how to use their school Gmail account and joined their very first Google classroom using a special 3S code which they were all very excited about.

The students also had the opportunity to discuss their personal goals for English and Mathematics that they would like to achieve this year.

What a SMILEY and SENSATIONAL start to the year for our 3S students!

Stage 3

Welcome back Stage 3 parents and students to what should be a fantastic year ahead. I hope you all had a safe and restful holiday break. I am looking forward to a wonderful year of learning where all students are challenged to achieve their learning goals, aspire to do their personal best and share their successes with you. The Stage 3 teachers are all excited for the learning journey ahead in 2023.

All classes have started the year by diving straight into our literacy and numeracy programs. This allows our students to learn expected routines in Years 5 and 6. Many of our students have started their learning journey slides and will begin to set their learning goals by discussing with their teacher where to next in their learning.

We look forward to sharing more information with you at the upcoming Meet the Teacher evening on Thursday.
