Incursion

This week, all students in Years 3 and 4 were treated to a magnificent performance by 'Meerkat Productions' as part of their Term 1 Inquiry units.

Year 3 students enjoyed a production called Mr Huff, which taught students how to recognise different emotions they might be feeling and learn to respond to them in an appropriate way.

Year 4 students watched Bully Bull Ring, where characters acted out situations of bullying and taught students strategies for how to peacefully deal with such situations.

Year 3 Camp

Students were sent home this week with notices regarding Year 3 Camp. This year Grade 3 Camp will be taking place on Wednesday 5th – Thursday 6th April. As previous years, we will be visiting The YMCA Recreational Camp in Mt Evelyn.

Unlike previous years, all medical forms will now be completed on QKR. All medical forms and questions must be completed in order for your child to attend. This means there are no paper copy forms to be completed this year. The cost for the camp is $240, which can be paid in one or two parts on QKR. First payment and medical information is to be completed by 13th March. If paying in two parts, the final instalment is due on 27th March.

We remind parents that this is an excellent learning opportunity for all students, and gives them a lifelong experience to look back on and share with their peers. It facilitates many teaching opportunities in the classroom and is an excellent introduction to the future camps that Vermont Primary School holds in later years of schooling.

Year 4 Camp

As outlined in the last edition of The Nurlendi News, Year 4 students will be attending a two night camp early in Term 2. It is taking place at Camp Oasis in Mt Evelyn and runs from Wednesday, 10th of May until Friday, 12th of May. It will provide a range of terrific experiences for all the children and is a very important part of their school year.

More details regarding the Year 4 camp will be distributed in coming weeks. If you have any queries, please contact the Year 4 camp coordinator - Paul Souter (paul.souter@education.vic.gov.au).

Whitehorse Division Swimming Carnival

Many students from across Year 3 and 4 have done a brilliant job at competing in swimming events for VPS so far this year. They are to be congratulated for their efforts. In particular, we would like to acknowledge the following students who have qualified to compete at the upcoming Whitehorse Division Swimming Carnival on Thursday, 9th of March:

Year 3: Ethan T.

Year 4: Lucas S, Eden Y, Martin M, Kaleah L, Chloe S & Heidi O.

NAPLAN

The students in Year 3 will be involved in the NAPLAN assessment this year. If you are unaware of NAPLAN, it involved assessments in literacy and numeracy. It is a National Assessment that the students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. This year, the assessments will be held from the 14th March through to the 23rd March. Further details will follow closer to the date.

Cyber Safety – Parent Information Night

Vermont Primary School is holding a free Cyber Safety Parent Workshop in March – and we want you there! The workshop focuses on practical steps for creating a cybersafe home for every family! Please come along no matter what your skill set – there’s something for everyone.

When: Thursday March 2nd in the VPA Stadium – 7pm to 8pm.

Reserve your spot now - https://bit.ly/vermontps-ps

Pencil Cases

It is important that all students in Grade 3 and 4 have a pencil case at school. This is to ensure that their belongings don’t get lost – especially when transitioning between classrooms for Maths Groups, Spelling Mastery of Specialist classes. We please ask that all students bring a pencil case to school for this reason. If you are unable to source one, please speak to your child’s classroom teacher.
