Dear Year 1 and 2 Families,
It has been a busy two weeks as students delve deeper into different topics and transition to different classrooms for Literacy and Maths groups. Please continue to check in with your child each day and ask them how their day went. Some days you might not get much out of them as they’ve just spent a whole day at school and some days, you’ll get every little detail! It is an excellent way to connect with your child so the next time you pick them up afterschool, why don’t you try a “what’s the best thing that happened to you today” or “what’s something you are proud of today” rather than “how was your day”. By being specific, you will hopefully be able to get more of a response from them.
Lifelong Learners
We encourage parents to support us in helping your child be independent little learners. You can do this by encouraging them to pack and unpack their school bags, carrying the school bags by themselves, looking after their belongings (jumpers and toys) and throwing their rubbish into the bin instead of placing it back into their lunchbox.
Early Drop Offs
Lately, we have noticed some students being dropped off at school before 8:30 am. Please utilise the OHSC service if you are dropping your child off early at school as the schoolyard is not supervised at that time.
School Photo Day
Friday 10th March, will be our Official School Photo Day. Please ensure that child is wearing the correct school uniform. If for whatever reason, your child will be absent, never fear! They will have an official school photo, however, that won’t be until later in the year. Please ensure that you have purchased them online as cash is not accepted on the day. If you have ordered a sibling photo, please make sure your children are aware of this. Parents will have the option of having their sibling photo taken from 8 am in the morning if that is desired, otherwise, it will be taken throughout the day.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Parent Teacher Interview registrations will open from Monday 6th March at 9 am. Please ensure you book a time with your child’s classroom teacher or let them know if an interview isn’t required. The booking system will be closed on the 17th March at 5 pm. Parent Teacher Interviews will be held both online and in-person to suit family needs.
Grade 2 Class Mascots
Last week, our Grade 2 students were introduced to their ‘class mascot.’ These mascots enjoy visiting different people’s homes and love to have lots of adventures. Therefore, each student will be given the opportunity to take their mascot home with them once this year, usually over the course of a weekend. The purpose of this activity is to provide students with another opportunity to be involved in enjoyable reading and writing activities. As such, it is suggested that each child read with their mascot and write in their mascots diary about something they did at their house during their stay. Photos are fantastic too and can be glued into the diary for their peers to see! Parents, this is not designed to be an extra homework task, but to show the children that reading and writing is fun. Please also note that children choose to bring their class mascot home; it is not something they have to do. More information is available in the front cover of the mascots diary and you can always email your child’s classroom teacher if you have any further questions.
