Level 4 Newsletter 24th February 2023

The students have well and truly settled into school routines and have been extremely busy during the first 4 full weeks. We have many things still to come this term which we are looking forward to so please pay careful attention to dates listed below.

Year 6 Camp

What an incredible time the Year 6s had at Camp Coonawarra last week! There was a wide variety of activities for students to challenge themselves and take part in. Students showed resilience and determination to complete tasks. We had some warm weather and everyone kept a positive outlook throughout. A huge thank you to the parents who came along (we wouldn't have been able to run camp without you!) and especially to Mr Sadler for all his organisation and preparation.

Year 5 ASPIRE Day

On Friday 17th February all Year 5 students participated in a leadership program which took place over the whole day. We are very proud of their behavior and engagement in the program and activities, especially given the day was incredibly hot.

I really liked how Gil added expression during his presentation. The activities were really fun and interactive, allowing us to use teamwork. I learnt to be a great leader and a role model to others. – Vincent

I really enjoyed the game This and That. It was really fun. I learnt how to be confident and a leader. - Careena

Year 5 Parent Information Night re Transition for 2024

The transition session for Year 5 parents to gain information about the application process for secondary school will be held in the Learning Centre Tuesday 28th February at 6pm. This is not a session for students.

Y Safe Sessions

Level 4 students will participate in an hour session Thursday 2nd March. Issues around cybersafety will be addressed. Parents are invited to attend an evening session on the same day from 7- 8pm in the stadium.

Homework

Level 4 homework has officially begun. All tasks are saved on Seesaw. The homework period runs from a Monday to the Friday of the following week, giving students 11 days to complete their tasks. The general structure of homework is:

  • 4 Mathletics tasks
  • Speaking and Listening task
  • Reading of their Lexile book for 20 minutes every day or 6 sessions of reading for 30 minutes each
  • Writing task

Please support your child in establishing weekly homework routines. Setting up a timetable around out of school activities is an ideal way to plan out the 11 day homework period.

Swimming

A huge congratulations to the swimming team who won the District Swimming Carnival this week. A massive thanks to Clinton Walsh for his tireless efforts in making sure our students get the best opportunities and for ensuring these days run smoothly.

Melbourne Holocaust Museum Excursion Year 5s

Please remember to make payment as soon as possible for the upcoming excursion to the Melbourne Holocaust Museum. The students have been engaged in discussions in all Year 5 classes during our reading of this term’s serial story, Once by Morris Gleitzman. The empathy, inquisitiveness and questioning around this topic has lead to fantastic class discussions.

School Photos

Our official school photos will be taken on Friday March 10. Many of our students wear their sports V top on Fridays, but please note that all students will need to be in full school uniform for the photos. They can bring their V top to change in to later if they wish.
