The careers team has been very busy this term! We have been meeting with all Year 12 students on an individual basis to prepare them for next year, whether that be University applications, TAFE applications, GAP years, apprenticeships and more. The Wellbeing Team have also been assisting with SEAS and Scholarships applications, supporting students in securing the best possible outcomes with their VTAC applications.

The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) is a hub for tertiary course applications in Victoria. VTAC receives, processes and forwards course applications to universities, TAFEs and independent tertiary colleges in Victoria, and a few outside Victoria. VTAC also processes special consideration claims through the SEAS application and some scholarship applications. VTAC’s other role is calculating the ATAR for Year 12 students.

HeadStart

Introducing Jacqueline Breeuwer; Jacqui is our new contact for the Head Start Program at HPSC.  Any students seeking information on school-based apprenticeships (SBAT’s) are encouraged to contact Jacquie directly on Mobile: 0448 584 004 or

Email: Jacqueline.Breeuwer@education.vic.gov.au

HeadStart is a program designed to help students begin an apprenticeship or traineeship whilst still at school. The program recognises that everyone learns differently, has different interests and career goals. Head Start lets you start learning skills for an apprenticeship or traineeship early – while still making sure that you get the real-life knowledge that employers need by completing your VCE or VCAL.

When you finish school, you’ll have your VCE or VCAL as well as having finished (or be close to finishing) your training - giving you a head start on everyone else. You can choose from apprenticeships and traineeships in key industries such as building, construction, community services and health, business and primary industries. See Mr Evans in the Careers Office for further information. There have recently been some  new courses added to the HeadStart program.
