Teaching and Learning Hub

Teaching and Learning Hub

Welcome to our second Teaching and Learning Hub!

Firstly, we would like to thank all of the students, families, and staff in the HPSC community for your dedication and engagement in remote learning during Term Three. We all know by now how challenging lock-downs and remote learning can be, but it has been inspiring once again to see the amazing work our students have been creating, the fantastic and innovative ways parents and carers have been supporting the learning of their children, as well as the continued passion of our teaching and support staff to create engaging online learning opportunities to support all students.

We are both invested in hearing the voice of students and parents and using this to help shape the future direction of learning at HPSC.

We would really love to hear from you!

  • Do you have a question?
  • Do you have a comment?
  • Do you have something to share about how you have been successful in encouraging your child to learn at home?
  • Is there something you would like to know more about?

We would love to hear from you and to publish you in our column!

Please forward any questions, comments, or success stories to:

Paul.Broecker@education.vic.gov.au

Or

Melanie.Larcombe@education.vic.gov.au

We know that your time is valuable, so if we publish a piece you have shared, we will send a little chocolate thank you your way as a small token of our appreciation for your contribution!

Happening Now:

Education Sub-Committee

Would you like to have a direct influence in how teaching and learning happens at HPSC? We are still looking for some additional parent and carer volunteers to join our new Education sub-committee. The committee will meet at least once a term to discuss and plan for all things teaching and learning related at HPSC. For example, some questions to explore might include:

  • What sort of information would you like to see on your child’s report?
  • How can we improve the communication between parents and teachers?

If you would like to find out more, please contact Paul, we would love to have you on board!

Reporting Review

We are currently reviewing the way we ‘do’ reporting at HPSC. We would love it if you could start to have a think about what information you would like to see on your child’s report. What is helpful for you to understand your child’s progress at school? What information do you think is missing at the moment that you would like to see included?

We will send out a survey to parents and carers at the start of Term Four so that we can get your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions.

Assessment and Reporting Information for Term-Three

We will be providing an opt-in system for families to receive their child’s GPA for Term Three. This decision has been made so that families who would like to receive this feedback about their child’s learning may still do so, whilst those families who would like to leave viewing this information until a later time may also make this choice. We believe that this is the best way to move ahead with GPA reporting at this time, as it still allows the school to collect important learning information about students as well as giving families the choice as to whether they would also like to receive this information.

The other small change that has been made in response to continued remote-learning is around Term-Three Assessments for our Years 7 to 10 Students. Teachers in all 7 to 10 subjects have adjusted Term Three Assessments in response to remote-learning. Teachers will still be reporting against the essential skills and knowledge outlined in the Victorian Curriculum Standards; however, the tasks teachers have asked students to complete may differ slightly to those that would have been giving during ‘normal’ onsite learning.

We understand that this sixth extended lockdown has been and continues to be a difficult time for many Victorians, including students, parents, and staff at Hampton Park Secondary College.

If you would like to obtain your child’s Term Three GPA, please contact the main office or your child’s sub-school.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about assessment and reporting practices at Hampton Park Secondary College, please contact the school on 8795 9400.

At Home:

Taking a Break

It is important that students take a break over the term-three holidays. Many children are feeling tired and screen-fatigued; please encourage them to take some time away from their studies during the break to relax and recharge! We understand that students, especially our senior students, will need to spend considerable time during this break studying and preparing for final assessments and exams, but please remain aware of how much time they are spending ‘on screen’ and ensure they take appropriate breaks, eat nutritious food, and get some exercise.

Please feel free to email Paul or Mel directly at Paul.Broecker@education.vic.gov.au or Melanie.Larcombe@education.vic.gov.au. Alternatively, you can call the front office on 8795 9400, leave us a message and we will call you back. 😊
