VHAP Update

Remote Learning means we are still waiting to hand-out certificates to students who successfully completed the course earlier this year. Hopefully, this can be done when on-site sub-school assemblies recommence. Our term 3 students are almost at the end of the program with this being the final week of the current term.

It is probably a good chance to give some general information about this program for those who may have heard about it but do not know what it involves.

The Victorian High‐Ability Program (VHAP) is an online program where students engage in both synchronous and asynchronous learning. Its goal is to accelerate/enrich students in Mathematics and English and is open to Year 7 and 8 students. The Department, rather than the school itself, decides who can enter the program and sends out invitations once per term for the following term.

In Mathematics, students explore big ideas such as infinity, optimal strategy, paradoxes, networks and patterns in numbers. Students develop their understanding of how to formulate mathematical explanations using a range of techniques. In English, students explore ‘Dystopias’; delving in to challenging concepts, characterisation and visual images. Following an analysis of key texts, the students create their own dystopian world and their own protagonist.
