Principal's News

Mr Rodrigues

Dear Families,

I, like all of you, am extremely disappointed that we still find ourselves in lockdown and our children are still having to work from home. Thank you to all those who have already completed the remote learning survey as this does certainly help us to identify areas for improvement.  We encourage and welcome feedback from parents  and whilst we realize realistically that it might not be possible to address each and every suggestion I can assure that each of these is discussed and reflected on so that we can continually improve our practice in the the remote learning environment. On a positive note, however, our remote learning does create some opportunities that may not have been possible in the classroom. A great example of this was in this weeks Junior science lessons which saw children and parents working together to solve an engineering problem posed by Ms Foley. After reading the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff the children were tasked with the job of building a bridge for the Billy Goats to cross. Some of the bridges designed and built demonstrated amazing problem solving and also enabled children to develop their presentation skills in creating videos to explain their work. Here is just one great example, from Isabel in Prep, of this wonderful work.

First Eucharist

Ms deKort has now emailed all parents of children who were prepared to make their First Eucharist last Sunday and we will keep you informed about a suitable date once we are able to plan for this important celebration.

Google Survey

Thank you to all those parents who completed the Remote Learning Survey sent out last week. Here is a snapshot of some of the responses to our Remote Learning Survey which will help guide us in the event of further lockdowns.  You can click on the images to enlarge.

From the optional comments given it is clear that what parents value, is the time children spend with their class teacher, small group and one on one lessons, explicit teaching sessions which are challenging and engaging, teacher feedback and some parents asking for less screen time. The challenges raised are most certainly in relation to how much time parents are required to support children's learning, especially when they are also working from home.
