From the Principal

Term 3

The term is almost at an end and we are all looking forward to a break from screens.  I am looking forward to cleaning out cupboard or two, reading a book, finishing a jigsaw puzzle, working in my garden and wishing I could see my granddaughter for her birthday.  I hope your family find some time to enjoy different activities together.  On this coming Sunday there will be information delivered to the Victorian community about the return to school plan.  When that information is made publicly available I will be back in touch to let you know what is happening in Term 4.

This week I had a surprise email from Dustin Halse, Member of Parliament for Ringwood. He wrote asking me to pass on a message to Ros Hill who had commemorated forty years of teaching within the Department of Education.  We are so lucky that a large percentage of Ros' teaching career has been here at Mullum Primary School.  Ros moved from Norwood Primary School to Mullum Primary and has had a continued, immensely positive impact on so many lives of our students and families and the teaching teams she has work with.  Ros currently works with our Grade 4 students and leads our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program.  What a wonderful achievement, congratulations, Ros!

AFL Football Clinic

Today all students were invited to participate in a live AFL Football Clinic.  A great chance to practice some handballing and kicking skills.  Thank you to Fiona Pumpa for organising this event for everyone.  With the Grand Final just around the corner everyone in my household are very excited as they wait to see if their beloved Melbourne Football Club will win.

Marvellous Mullum's Mystery Night

We are all looking forward to Marvellous Mullum's Mystery Night tonight at 7pm.  Thanks to our very talented staff; Kristy, Karen and Sam, we have a night of sleuthing and solving ahead of us.  Thanks to Mark Penny for getting such a great range of prizes for this evening.  Soryana and Layla's family won the early bird draw of a litre of icecream from the very new ice-cream shop 'Mastika'.  We thank them for a very generous donation towards tonight's fundraiser.  We have 48 families joining us and collectively we have raised $960 to buy new sports equipment for use in the playground at recess and lunch times.  Thank you everyone for joining in the fun.

Foundation

The students have been very busy making and weighing items in and around their house to get a better understanding of mass and hefting.  Students used their hefting skills to find things around their house that were the same weight, or that are heavier or lighter in weight. Using a tin and a tray, they created balance scales to justify their hefting estimation. There was fruit, toys, tanbark and flowers in the mix of weighable items.

To end our final week of online school, our Foundation students have had a lot of fun wearing their pyjamas to an online party. We had many oodies, dressing gowns and favourite PJ’s being worn. To add to the excitement, the students had their own individual party food, ranging from Fairy Bread to Oreos to Popcorn. There was a lot of movement, sugar and fun!  Fingers crossed the students didn’t go back to bed after the meeting!

Grade Three

Grade 3 have been writing seven line poems following a pattern of nouns and verbs.  I think we have a poet in the making here, congratulations Evie on your poem about dogs.

Students came up with some ideas to create a space to hang out and things to assist with their own wellbeing.

Grade 5/6

This last week our Grade 5/6 students have been researching the impact of mining on the environment, particularly with a focus on Aboriginal cultural sites and the flora and fauna. Here are a few of the drawings students have done of some black cockatoos:

Have a safe and restful break and I look forward to seeing everyone in Term 4.
