Secondary Athletics

This week the Secondary Athletics team commenced training in preparation for the upcoming SSATIS and SATIS Athletics Carnivals.  The students will be hoping for fine and mild weather, as they spend Wednesday and Friday mornings before school preparing for their events. Thanks to those parents and carers for their support with this commitment.  Special thanks to Vanessa Kearney, Kevin Alomes and Rachel Hosie who will be providing expert coaching at the training sessions.

Primary Basketball

Primary Basketball commences this week with a Year 3 team, a Year 4 team and two Year 5/6 teams taking to the court for their opening games today. All players have been training since the start of term, and have been lucky to have received some expert coaching from Hobart Chargers Coaches Anthony Stewart and Mark Nash. Year 8 students Emily Browne and Erin Ayers will continue to work with the Year 3/4 students and Year 9 students Coco Erin and Claire Murray will take sessions with the Year 5/6 teams throughout this term.

We hope the players enjoy the season, regardless of whether they are experienced or just trying basketball for the first time.

Year 9/10 Australian Rules Football

The roster has commenced well for the Year 9/10 Australian Rules Football team, with success from their opening three games. The team has come together with a range of experience, and even includes some Year 7s that are adjusting well to the older age group. The opening match saw Mount Carmel defeat Friends Blue 44 to 8, with 2 goals to Hannah Powe. The round 2 match was won 47 to 24 against Mackillop with Sophia Di Venuto scoring 3 goals. This week Dominic forfeited the match, putting Mount Carmel at the top of the table, with other undefeated teams Fahan and Sacred Heart College.

Good luck to the team and coaches Mr Anthony Chapman and Ben Harrison for the rest of the season.

Soccer Representation

Congratulations to Year 9 student Millie Baric who has been selected in the state U15 Football Tasmania squad.  Squads have been selected with a view to competing against other states including Football Victoria Talent ID squads and WNPL clubs, pending domestic border restrictions, after the Football Australia National Youth Championships have been called off for 2021.
