Year 11 Pastoral Guardian

During Body Image Awareness Week, one concern for students was the impact of unrealistic shopped images online on challenging their own self-appreciation and love. Maddy Brown’s advice was for young people to focus on your own self before focusing on others, while Charlotte and Abby quoted love yourself for who you are

Brigid Pausina, Hannah Watson, Grace Wilkins, Mikaela Aitchison shared an empowering quote: you are perfect just the way you are - love yourself.

In this week, I was thrilled to see the way Year 11 students embraced wearing blue items as a symbol of awareness, coordinated by Peer Support.

In our Personal Development programme, this Term Year 11 students have learned about brain development and the influence of substances, with this week’s PD focusing on vaping. My students have appreciated being informed about medical information and legalities and were open to sharing their views as young adults. Please discuss with your young adult their understandings. Resources are available to view on Moodle Year 11 Personal Development Term 3. You can also view a PowerPoint that was shared with students in an effort to further educate them around the dangers or vaping here .

I'm so pleased to see Year 11 students consistently demonstrating Franciscan values of service and joy! Many have volunteered for the Vinnies Sleepout on Monday 13 September and in these final weeks of term are happily participating in Cultural Festival heats and House Dance Battle practice. As a cohort, they are moving towards being great 2022 Seniors of the College. As we enter exam and final internal FA3 assessments we are encouraging a “Can Do” attitude and wish our Year 11 students every success.
