Around the College
Our wonderful student body
Let's be straight up - this latest lockdown has been tough. On August 6, Melbourne metro entered a 'snap 7-day' lockdown, catching many of us by surprise. Here we are, 4 weeks on and remote and flexible learning still continues and will do so for the remainder of term 3.
What gives us the strength to keep going? It's our remarkable Doncaster SC students, that's what! Over the past few weeks, Mr Brock Shirley (SRC Coordinator) has had many students reach out and ask how they can thank the staff at DSC for their efforts during this time. One student, in particular, has been extremely passionate about this - Jasmine Drakopoulos of 9C. This week, Jasmine has been chatting to students from all around the school and has found that many of them feel the same way as her. So, from her discussions with them, she penned a letter of appreciation to all teachers at DSC. Jasmine hopes that this letter will give us that little extra kick we need to get to the end of term 3. Jasmine has allowed us to share this with you via our newsletter.
Dear All DSC staff,
On behalf of the whole student cohort, we would like to thank you for all that you do for us.
You spend hours upon hours looking out for us and constantly giving us that boost of confidence to continue learning and to do the best we can. You are always there to help us when we are in need and always there support us no matter what.
We hope lockdown doesn’t affect you all too much and hope that you are not overworking and tiring yourselves out. Hopefully you all get time to take regular breaks and get outside. You all are truly kind and helpful to all of us. The amount that you do for us is truly incredible and we cannot thank you enough.
No matter how many times you may read this message, once, twice, maybe even every day, we hope it reminds you of how much you have accomplished and how absolutely amazing you are. If you are ever feeling not 100% for any reason, maybe come back and re-read this message, hopefully it will give you the boost that is needed! Perhaps, you could even set a daily reminder on your phone/device or even write it on a sticky note somewhere visible saying, ‘your amazing keep it up!’ or anything that gets you going!
We hope you all stay well and again thank you for everything and we can’t wait to see you all back at school!
From Jasmine Drakopoulos and the SRC team on behalf of the student cohort
This letter has lifted our spirits and gives us drive to continue delivering our online classes with passion (not to mention, it has also brought a tear to our eyes). Everyone at DSC is amazing!
Fully Charged!
From cooking to photography, art to charity donations, our students made the most of our Recharge Day on Wednesday August 18. Here are a few more photos from our Middle School students.
W Block
Last week we were very pleased to have three new Flagpoles erected. These have been placed up near W Block behind our Amphitheatre.
There is still some work to be done to complete this area, as well as the W Block Courtyard, but works should be finished for the start of term four.

Wear It Purple Day
On Thursday August 27 it was Wear It Purple Day. This international day strives to foster supportive, safe, empowering, and inclusive environments for rainbow young people.
At Doncaster Secondary College we support and celebrate the value of diversity and inclusion in our school community. All young people have the right to belong and to express themselves freely. As a mark of respect to our rainbow students, our teachers, wellbeing team and education support staff proudly wore purple last Thursday to demonstrate our commitment to a truly inclusive school environment.
Today we had our backgrounds set to purple or wore something purple to celebrate creating safe, empowering, and inclusive spaces for LGBTQI+ young people. As a team we recognise the detrimental effects that bullying and online harassment can have on our wonderful rainbow community. We come together today to raise awareness and show our solidarity. Keep an eye out for Wear it Purple Day next year if you missed it, and if you’d like to donate, here is the link: https://www.wearitpurple.org/donate

Lockdown Art
At Doncaster SC we have some very talented artists amongst our student cohort. We'd like to share some illustrations created by Year 7 student Zara Papadopolous of 7J.
Homework Club
When students return to on-site learning, the Homework Club will be starting up once again for this term on Thursdays at 3.30 pm in the A Block. Students are welcome to join and get support with their homework.
