Assistant Principal's Report
Mrs Sue Simadri
I would like to begin by thanking and congratulating staff, students, and parents for their efforts in managing the extension of lockdown, and the resulting continuation of remote, online learning. While it is really challenging and not an easy thing to do, the willingness for everyone to make a contribution and support one another is a credit to you all.
I asked my Year 12 students this week to offer a tip to support their peers or something they were doing that was working for them. Their responses included: eat healthy foods, include exercise in your daily routine, get enough sleep, remain positive. These are great suggestions that would benefit us all, and ones that are endorsed by Luke Lindsay, Lifeline’s General Manager. Included in his Self-care Tips is, ‘give yourself some positive feedback for all the things you are doing’. We are often quick to praise others, but it is equally important to acknowledge self, so, give yourself a pat on the back and cheer yourself on, this too will pass!
Semester One reports were made available in Compass earlier this term; I hope all parents/carers have had the chance to access the reports and discuss your child’s learning progress at home. These reports are different to semester reports from previous years in that they do not include teacher comments. Please refer to the assessments in Compass Learning Tasks for more detailed feedback.
We encourage students to review these reports with their Parents/Carers and develop a plan to address noted areas for improvement. It is important to then set related goals for the next semester, taking into account what students have achieved and any areas requiring changes. If you have trouble accessing the reports or you need password support, then please contact the General Office.
Progress reports provide parents and guardians with a brief snapshot of how your child is progressing during the second semester. Due to the extended lockdowns and the adjustments teachers have had to make to administering assessments, we have delayed progress reports to early Term 4.
Year 7-10 Parent-Teacher Interviews are scheduled for Tuesday 14th September from 3-6pm. These interviews provide an important opportunity for you and your child to discuss his/her progress and to build communication between parents and the College.
All interviews will be conducted via Microsoft Teams, the online platform that students have been using for remote learning. Parents will receive a Compass notification when the booking portal is open later this week, and you can access the online booking system using your Compass Username and Password. Log in and book times as you normally would for onsite interviews, ensuring that you will be available for all the nominated times. Unfortunately, we will not be able to organise interpreters for these interviews.
For assistance with bookings or login issues, please contact the office on 9546 3233.
All students have undergone some level of course counselling and have completed their selection of subjects and electives for 2022. The College will use these selections to determine the subjects that will run in 2022 based on the number of students choosing particular subjects. The priority is to try and meet everyone’s learning requirements within a workable framework. Subjects may be deemed no longer viable due to small numbers, in which case, students will be re-counselled to select alternative subject/s. We expect that the process will be finalised by the end of this term.
Take care.
