Assist your child feature page contains links to articles that provide tips and advice for parents and carers to assist their child with their career development. Our College has registered and paid an annual fee for the use. To log in, students need to use their school email address.
Year 12 - University of Notre Dame: Early Offer Program 2018
High achieving Year 12 students can apply for Notre Dame’s Early Offer Program. This program is open to Year 12 students who have demonstrated academic excellence and/or are making a significant contribution to their school, community or church. The program rewards academic and non-academic achievements by issuing university offers prior to the final WACE exams. Applicants will need to demonstrate a predicted benchmark ATAR of 93 for the Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Physiotherapy; and a predicted benchmark ATAR of 90 for all other undergraduate programs. For academic capability, all offers are made based on Year 11 and Year 12 reports to date.
To apply for the Early Offer Program, you must be nominated by your school and application packs will be available for students in June.
All applications must be handed in to Mr Bostelman no later than the 20 July. The College will forward all applications to Notre Dame. For more information about Early Offer, go to

Year 12 Exit Plans
All Year 12 students will be meeting individually with the Career Counsellor after the May exams. The meeting will be to discuss their plans for next year and to offer any guidance or additional information concerning their options. Please discuss your child’s exit plans with him or her now and encourage those who have vague plans to see me prior to the exams so we can work together on developing clear goals and action steps.

Financial and Insurance Services
Financial services are the economic services provided by the finance industry, which encompasses a broad range of businesses that manage money, including credit unions, banks, credit-card companies, insurancecompanies, accountancy companies, consumer-finance companies, stock brokerages, investment funds, individual managers and some government-sponsored enterprises.
This industry includes banking, insurance and superannuation funds, as well as financial brokering services. Most jobs are in Sydney and Melbourne. There are fewer young people than in other industries, and part-time time work is uncommon. Many workers in this industry have a university degree. The largest occupation, Bank Workers, doesn't require a degree and may provide a pathway into the industry.

New Jobs and Skills Centres in WA
The Department of Training and Workforce Development have opened five new Jobs and Skills Centres at North and South Metropolitan TAFE campuses.
The JSCs offer free career, training and employment services to students, jobseekers and career changers, and employers and businesses.

Construction

Whether you’re building a house or an airport, just about every trade is represented on each worksite so it’s smart to get an idea of how they all fit together.

Surveyor
From the Board of Surveying and Spatial Information of NSW – “A career in surveying can be very diverse and involves travelling and the use of specialised technology. Surveyors can be involved in making measurements in the outdoors or indoors, processing data and creating plans and maps.”
Surveyors measure and map things then provide the information to people like engineers, architects and developers.
You could work in the office or in the field, using high-tech equipment and sophisticated software to put together measurements that are needed by other design professionals.
Without their work it would be impossible for engineers and architects to accurately design and construct buildings.
Salary: Starting salary around $42k for an Assistant (Cert III level) to $64k for a Draftsperson with 5 years’ experience. Those with a university qualification may earn $90k plus as a Licensed/Registered Surveyor.
Qualifications: From TAFE, start with a Cert III and work through to a Diploma to become a fully qualified draftsperson, you need a university degree to become a surveyor.
