Frankston Primary School Visit the McClelland College Academies

Primary School MAP Taster Day

This Wednesday as part of the MAP we welcomed over eighty students and staff from Frankston Primary School to McClelland College. This is not one of our feeder schools but a “swing” school that borders with Frankston High School, so developing positive relationships with this school is really beneficial to our future.

These students were all from Grades 3 and 4 and as such were younger than our usual guests and required a lot more support and structure from our academy staff to accommodate them safely and to make the experience a positive, enjoyable one. The students selected MAPs to try out for the afternoon and were capped at twenty. These MAPs were the Basketball Academy, E-Magination, Photography, A.F.L., Food For Thought, and Japow. The activities planned for the students were extremely well organised and were prepared with eight and nine year old's in mind. No easy feat when our MAP staff also had their regular student cohorts to cater for.

The feedback from the Frankston Primary Staff was extremely positive, particularly concerning our students who acted as college ambassadors and ‘buddies’ for the event. The students loved the lunch which was all prepared and organised by our extremely hard working Food For Thought team, and were facilitated and supervised by four of the Food For Thought students from Year Eight: Mikayla Vandermeede, Shanae Dempster and Zander Wilson.

Our Photography MAP ambassadors,  Vivone Street and Sarah Johnson, were our staff photographers on the day. We would like to thank the following staff for all of their hard work on the day and preparation beforehand which made the event such a resounding success:

Michael Walklate, Todd Slater, Jess Jones, Justine Isard, Brenton Foley, Amanda Pate, Danielle Harry, Raymon Boulter, Jo Kennedy-Walker, Frances Italia, Jodie McCabe, Monique Riley, Usha Saccaram, Azusa Suzuki and Clare Budd.

A special shout out to Jo Kennedy-Walker, and her team, who was a a massive help in delivering the lunches for more than eighty people on the day. It was great to see so many of our MAPs running extremely engaging programs (Frankston Primary School staff’s words) and activities for students of all ages.
