Teach The Teacher Review

In 2018 Students from the SRC surveyed students and, based on this research, conducted a ‘Teach the Teacher’ session with the entire staff to address what students saw as the most pressing issues needing to be addressed in the classroom, as well as in the wider College community.

On Thursday, October 24th, two researchers from Deakin University came to McClelland to assess the impact that the VicSRC program of ‘Teach the Teacher’ had had on the College.

This entailed two SRC members, DJ McFarlane and Vivone Street, who had both been involved in the program in 2018, giving up most of their day to act as Students Advisors and run a forum. They were trained in how to conduct the session with the students they were surveying. After running the session they debriefed with the researchers about the outcomes.

The 18 students who attended the forum shared their views of the improvements they had seen within the College and classroom over the last year. A big thanks to all who were open and honest in their appraisal.

Results of the Deakin research will be available by early next year.

Our Future Leaders - Engage Leadership Workshop

On Tuesday, October 29th 2019, fourteen years 7-9 students attended a workshop aimed at further developing their leadership skills and understanding of what true leadership involves. Through varied activities and discussion they explored different leadership styles, considering when and why some of these styles are successful.

We would like to thank Angela Knox Carter from ARDOCH and presenter, Tayah Carr, for sponsoring this program.

It is hoped that these students gained confidence in their abilities as future leaders, and that we see them put their hands up for leadership roles within the College in the coming years.

Leadership Positions 2020

It is that time of the year when students from Years 7 – 10 should be thinking of stepping up for a leadership role for next year. This could entail being a member of the SRC.

The SRC involves students across all year levels being educated on how to be a leader, how to plan and conduct activities, speak to their cohorts through a variety of forums and represent their views. It can be hard work at times, but is very rewarding, especially working with students from all year levels.

Details about the election process at each level will be passed on through the Year Level Coordinators. All positions (Years 8 – 12, 2020) will be decided this year, so we are ready to get going from day 1 in 2020!

If anyone has questions please come and see me, Mrs. Holt, or ask your current SRC leaders about their experiences.
