Principal's Message

Amadeo Ferra

On Wednesday, 30th October our Year 12 students sat their Unit 3 and 4 English or English as an Additional Language (EAL) exam.

This marked the beginning of a four-week period of exams for most of our Year 12 students. We wish our students the very best for the examination period.  I am confident that the hard work and dedication to studies will pay off and that we will be publishing stories of successful exam outcomes in the future.

McClelland College has a well-established tradition of formally farewelling our Year 12 students at a special Valedictory Assembly which is followed by dinner. This year, the Valedictory Assembly was held on Wednesday 23rd November.  We presented a range of Year 12 Awards at the assembly to acknowledge the students who have achieved excellence in the school-based assessments as well as students who have made positive contributions to our school community. The Valedictory Assembly is always an event filled with mixed emotions: pride in the students themselves, sadness in their leaving, and excitement for them as they make the move into life beyond McClelland College.

Please note our 2019 academic year ends next Friday 15th November with our final two Student Free Days for the year being Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th of November. These days involve a number of important professional development opportunities for teachers including all staff receiving Cultural Understanding and Safety Training. All students resume for the Headstart to 2020 program on Wednesday 20th November.

We are in the process of building our new Annual Implementation Plan and this time will be invaluable in terms of developing an even better learning experience for our students in the years to come.

In our final COG later in the year we will have details of the amended Mobile Phone Policy to reflect the changes required under the new mandated state wide policy which comes into effect at the beginning of 2020. In a nutshell the changes we will have to make will include some learning and health exceptions (in extreme and documented cases) as well as the fact that students must now lock their phones away and can no longer have them on them, even if they are switched off. School Council will ratify the changes at the next meeting.
