Helena Valtrová (1997)
Helen is General and Sales Manager of The Emblem Hotel, off Old Town Square, which has just been voted the ‘Best for Art’ hotel in Prague by the UK’s Independent newspaper.
Helen je generální a obchodní ředitelkou hotelu Emblem, u Staroměstského náměstí, který byl právě britským online deníkem The Independent zvolen „Best of Art“ hotelem v Praze.
Helen is one of the ECP’s first IB graduates, but not only were her year the first ECP IB graduates, they were amongst the first to take the IB in the whole country. She went on to Sussex University to study European Commercial Law, graduating with an LLB (Hons) in 2000, following this with an LLM in Corporate and Commercial Law at the London School of Economics. Then, after working in PR, for the Státní fond životního prostředí and two other Prague hotels, she joined The Emblem Hotel in 2013, where she is responsible for the overall running of the hotel.

Ve studiích pak pokračovala na univerzitě v Sussexu, kde se zaměřila na evropské obchodní právo a v roce 2000 získala titul LLB (Hons), a poté absolvovala London School of Economics v oboru Corporate and Commercial Law a obdržela titul LLM. Poté, co pracovala v PR pro Státní fond životního prostředí a pro dva hotely v Praze, nastoupila v roce 2013 do hotelu Emblem, kde je zodpovědná za celkový chod hotelu.
Eva Dvořáková (2002)
Last month, Eva took part in Swim Serpentine, a one-day, open water swimming festival on the Serpentine, in London’s Hyde Park. She joined scores of other intrepid swimmers and swam a mile to raise money for the Gorilla Organisation, a cause that’s really close to her heart. Minulý měsíc se Eva zúčastnila jednodenního plaveckého festivalu Swim Serpentine na Serpentine v londýnském Hyde Parku. Připojila se k dalším neohroženým plavcům a plavala jednu míli, aby pomohla získat peníze pro organizaci na ochranu goril, což je blízké jejímu srdci. Li Zhengyuan (2005)
Li left the ECP in 2005 and graduated from UNYP with an MBA. Now, thirteen years later, she is married with a beautiful little girl and has just opened her first enterprise, the Liangtse Wellness Prague, an elegant Chinese massage and therapy centre just near Florenc metro. It is an oasis of calm and elegance and offers an impressive range of Chinese massages and treatments, but it is the result of many months of hard work, not to mention investment. Li remembers her time at the English College in Prague with affection and would like to welcome ECP staff and parents to Liangtse to relax and to try some traditional Chinese massage and she is generously offering us a 30% discount until the end of October. Li maturovala na ECP v roce 2005 a poté absolvovala studium MBA na UNYP. O třináct let později se vdala a má krásnou dceru. Právě otevřela podnik Liangtse Wellness Prague, elegantní čínské masážní a terapeutické centrum v těsné blízkosti metra Florenc. Je to oáza klidu a elegance a nabízí působivou škálu čínských masáží a procedur, což je výsledkem mnoha měsíců tvrdé práce, nemluvě o investicích. Li vzpomíná na čas strávený na Anglickém gymnáziu se zalíbením a ráda by pozvala zaměstnance ECP i rodiče do Liangtse, aby si odpočinuli a vyzkoušeli nějakou tradiční čínskou masáž. Natálie Vlková (2008)
Natalie is a dental hygienist, working in London, but last month, she swapped her comfortable life in the UK for a very different experience in Africa. Dentalaid is a charity taking dental care to countries where there is a real shortage of dental professionals like Natálie. She spent over two weeks in Uganda, providing emergency dental care and oral health hygiene education for literally thousands of people. She has just returned home with lots of stories, photographs and memories and we will be sharing some of them in the next issue of the ECP Newsletter.
Natalie je dentální hygienička pracující v Londýně, ale minulý měsíc vyměnila svůj komfortní život ve Velké Británii za velmi odlišnou zkušenost v Africe. Dentalaid je charitativní organizace se stomatologickou péčí v zemích, kde je skutečný nedostatek dentálních odborníků, jako je Natálie. Strávila více než dva týdny v Ugandě a poskytovala zde zubní péči a osvětu o ústní hygieně doslova tisícům lidí. Právě se vrátila domů se spoustou historek, fotografií a vzpomínek a některé z nich budeme sdílet v příštím čísle našeho elektronického zpravodaje.
Martina Zapletalová (2008)
Congratulations to Martina and her husband, Ondřej, who have just become the proud parents of Eduard, born on 23 September. Martina studied Politics with Economics at the University of Bath, leaving with a First Class Honours degree and she has been working at Deloittes in Prague for six years, most recently as a Manager in their Human Capital Advisory Services department. Congratulations, too, to Michal Zapletal (2018) on becoming an uncle!
Blahopřejeme Martině a jejímu manželovi Ondřejovi, kteří se právě stali hrdými rodiči syna Eduarda, narozeného 23. září. Martina studovala politologii a ekonomii na univerzitě v Bathu, kde absolvovala s nejvyšším vyznamenáním, a již šest let pracuje ve společnosti Deloitte v Praze, naposledy jako manažerka v oddělení poradenských služeb v oblasti lidského kapitálu. Gratulujeme i Michalovi Zapletalovi (2018), který se stal strýcem!
Michal Barabas and Judita Sereghy (2009)
Michal left the English College in 2009 and first studied Pharmacology at UCL, leaving with a First Class Honours degree. He then moved to the University of Cambridge, getting first an MPhil in Translational Medicine and Therapeutics before graduating this summer with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB/BChir). He has now just taken up his first full time position as a Foundation Doctor for the North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust at Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon. He and Judita live in Cambridge and they have just got engaged so we send them huge congratulations from everyone at the ECP!
Michal absolvoval ECP v roce 2009 a nejprve studoval farmakologii na univerzitě UCL, kde absolvoval s nejvyšším vyznamenáním. Poté se přesunul na univerzitu v Cambridge a získal nejprve titul MPhil v oblasti medicíny a terapeutiky, a následně letos v létě absolvoval bakalářské studium medicíny a chirurgie (s tituly MB/BChir). Nyní nastoupil do své první pozice na plný úvazek jako lékař pro North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust v nemocnici Hinchingbrooke v Huntingdonu. Spolu s Juditou žijí v Cambridgi a právě se zasnoubili, k čemuž jim my všichni z ECP posíláme obrovské gratulace!
Patricie Fuxová (2010)
Patricie and her amazing band, Vesna, continue to push the boundaries of musical performance. Next month, they are appearing in the Obecní Dům here in Prague. Called Vesna: The Story of the Goddess, the concert will feature a symphony orchestra and is the story of the birth of a goddess, inspired by the mystery of Alfons Mucha. Full of Slavic stories and myths with dream scenography and a fashion show, it promises to be an evening of music, dancing and much more. For a reminder of Vesna’s unique sound, here they are:

Patricie a její úžasná kapela Vesna i nadále posouvají hranice hudebních vystoupení. Příští měsíc vystoupí v Obecním domě v Praze. Koncert bude mít název Vesna: Příběh bohyně a zvláštním hostem bude symfonický orchestr. Koncert je příběhem o narození bohyně, inspirovaný tajemstvím Alfonse Muchy. Díky slovanským příběhům a mýtům se scénografií snů a módní přehlídkou bude koncertní večer plný hudby, tance a mnohým dalším.
Eliška Thompsonová (2014)

Since graduating from the ECP and moving to Spain, where she studied Speech and Language Pathology at the University of Valencia, Eliška has been playing softball for Fènix València, who won the Spanish National League. Now she has gone one better and was in the Czech team who has just won the first ever Super 6 tournament, held in Hoofddorp, in the Netherlands. The Super 6 is a WBSC Europe event for baseball and softball, with the top six European teams in each sport participating in the tournament. During the season, Eliška has taken more than 30 flights and played in games and tournaments in six different countries, with three different teams, and won a medal with each of them.
Poté, co Eliška absolvovala studia na Anglickém gymnáziu, se přestěhovala do Španělska, kde studovala rétoriku a jazykovou patologii na univerzitě ve Valencii. Od té doby hraje softball za tým Fènix València, který vyhrál španělskou národní ligu. Nyní reprezentuje v českém týmu, který právě vyhrál první turnaj Super 6, který se konal v Hoofddorpu v Holandsku. Super 6 je baseballová a softbalová událost WBSC Europe se 6 špičkovými evropskými týmy v daném sportu. Během sezóny absolvovala Eliška více než 30 letů a hrála v zápasech a turnajích v šesti různých zemích se třemi různými týmy a s každým z nich vyhrála medaili.
Martin Rogers OBE
The English College Foundation and the English College in Prague noted with sadness the death of Martin Rogers in July. A service of thanksgiving in September in his local Oxfordshire church was attended by five of his close associates from the ECF. Martin was a Director of the ECF, the English charity which set up the ECP, from its creation in 1992 until 2012, and a Governor of the ECP from the beginning in 1995 until 2005. A science teacher, he had retired as High Master of King Edward’s School in Birmingham, and had previously held leadership roles in other prestigious independent schools, including Malvern and Westminster. He was the most experienced educationalist in the ECF, and played the leading role in the recruitment of the first three Headmasters. Martin was a kind, gentle and dedicated man who made a major contribution to the ethos the ECP, where his legacy lives on.

Nadace Anglického gymnázia (ECF) a Anglické gymnázium v Praze zaznamenaly v červenci smutnou zprávu o úmrtí Martina Rogerse. Smutečního obřadu, který se konal v září v místním kostele v Oxfordshire, se zúčastnilo také pět jeho blízkých spolupracovníků z nadace ECF. Martin byl ředitelem ECF, anglické charitativní organizace, která založila ECP, od jejího založení v roce 1992 až do roku 2012. Členem správní rady Anglického gymnázia byl od počátku roku 1995 do roku 2005. Byl učitelem přírodních věd a na vrcholu své kariéry byl ředitelem King Edward’s School v Birminghamu. Dříve zastával vedoucí pozice v jiných prestižních nezávislých školách, jako je Malvern a Westminster. Martin Rogers byl nejzkušenějším pedagogem v ECF a hrál klíčovou úlohu při náboru prvních tří ředitelů Anglického gymnázia. Martin byl laskavý, milý a oddaný člověk, který významně přispěl k étosu ECP, kde je jeho odkaz stále živý.
