Production Update
We are 12 weeks away from putting on a fantastic show and what a massive journey it has been so far.
Our mains, minors, featured dancers and ensemble have been rehearsing for several hours each week to make this trip to Skid Row an exciting one for our audiences. We have been sourcing props, costumes, wigs, sets and everything else to produce what will be our greatest show yet.
We have had a lot of input from college staff including Ms Butler assisting with our costumes, Mr Tserkezidis with our sets, Ms Cavanagh who will be in charge of our makeup for the shows, Mr Bales who will be in charge of our props, Mrs Maniatis who will be ordering our lovely cast t-shirts, Ms Baker-Goldsmith who will be in charge of our live band and is our Musical Director for the shows and Ms Wood who has been our vocal teacher for all of the amazing songs in the show. We have many more staff who will be involved in the latter parts of bringing the show together. Stay tuned.
The cast will be attending a 2-day non-residential camp in week 4, Thursday 10th May and Friday 11th May. This is for all cast and some crew members to get to know each other and how a show comes together when collaboration and team work is at hand. It is a very exciting time and I know all students are eager to make this show what it is destined to be, a great show!
We have also had sign-ups for the student crew and have had an amazing 33 students sign up. We have 2 senior students who are going to be our Stage Managers this year: Chloe Guss 10D and Shakira Nugent 11C.
We are also seeking parent involvement this year and would like volunteers to do things like supervision on the nights of the shows, quick costume changes in between numbers and overall support for the students on the nights of the shows. Please contact Mrs Sarah Mortimer for more information or to register your interest. You can do this via email or by calling the school. Email: smo@gec.vic.edu.au or 9571-7838.

Singfest
On 19th April, singing students from the Acapella and Vocal ensembles went to SINGFEST ‘18 at Mentone Girls’ Secondary College. As we walked into their hall, lots of other school were practising cool African songs. When we joined them a group of African dancers and musicians were singing and teaching us an African song. I loved going to Singfest because we got to learn lots of different songs in African languages and add some cool African dance moves to it. The group of African performers told us all about what they do in Africa and how the African lifestyle differs from ours. After that big day, I felt like I learned a lot and now know so much more about how they live and what they love to do in their spare time. Singfest was lots of fun and an amazing opportunity.
