Senior School News
We would like to welcome Monique to the college and to the Senior School team. We are very excited to have her on board and working with staff and students.
Well done to the Senior girls netball team who went out on Wednesday 2nd May to represent the college at the Beachside competition.
A huge thank you to all the students who assisted on Open Night and Open Day. It was fantastic to see many Year 11 and 12 students working in different faculty areas, and touring and chatting with parents.
Year 10
Year 10 students participated in Shape Your Destiny seminar run by Success Integrated. Shape Your Destiny is considered to be one of the most effective seminars run throughout Australia and New Zealand because it addresses the cause of why many students lack motivation at school and are unclear about their future. Each student received a booklet that focused on step-by-step action plans to build momentum toward their academic and career goals.
On Wednesday 2nd May the school was visited by slam poet Luka Lesson who engaged all students with his poetry. Adelin Zipman, one of our Year 10 Glen Eira students also performed two of her own amazing poems in the Performing Arts Centre.
We had an ANZAC Day ceremony this year in the quadrangle. Year 10s helped make this a memorable moment. Thank you to Daijan Denny who sang the national anthem of New Zealand.
And a very special thanks to all Year 10 Peer Support Leaders who run the Year 7 teams each Friday. Your efforts to creating a well-integrated school community are very much appreciated.
Year 11
Year 11 students participated in the Exam Success Strategies seminar run by Success Integrated. The focus was to help students prepare for their exams and provide them with effective exam room strategies and ways to increase their exam performance.
On Friday 20th April the Year 11 Geography class went to Marysville to investigate the impact of the Black Saturday bushfires. We started at Steavenson Falls where several black trees were a reminder of the effects of the fire. We then met with Barry from the Bushfire Education Centre who showed us footage of the fires and ran through some scenarios with students of what choices they might make if they found themselves caught in a bushfire and what their chances of survival would be as a result. It was very moving to see the collection of objects people gathered from the ruins of their homes and have donated to the museum. Students finished off the day by surveying people in the town about the impact the bushfires had on them and whether or not they would chose to stay and defend their homes.
Year 12
It never amazes me how well this cohort of students use their private study periods. Most pleasing is the fact that they work collaboratively when the need arises as well as working well independently. However, at times their focus does wander. This is therefore a timely reminder that mobile phones and other devices are to be used for school work only. These devices will be confiscated if they are used for any other purpose.
On Thursday 3rd May all Year 12 students attended the VCE and Careers Expo 2018 at Caulfield Racecourse. Each student was given tasks that needed to be completed at the Expo. This work is the beginning of the preparation required for applying for tertiary courses.
Please contact me at the college regarding any school issue.
