Junior School Highlights
It is a mantra in the Junior School for students to Get Organised, Get Focused and Get Involved. And as always, GEC students have been busy living up to our expectations.
Year 7
Our newest cohort, the Year 7s, have been setting a high bar for sport this year. Let’s start with our very own Southern Metropolitan Region Champions in Baseball: Maxime Eyserric, Jonah Ariel, Ethan Rosens, Oscar Gardiner, Ezra Bloch, Gustavo David, Jay Trickey, Max Kais, Hayden Cormick, Cameron McCutcheon, Zac Palatsides, Jeffery Liu, Raphael Nicolas, Thomas McBain, Xavier Sanchez, Igor Dubrovski and Roanin Jackson. Well done boys! We wish you all the very best at the state level.
It’s important to go out and do your best. Participation is the first step to success and you are setting a great example to other students. Oliver Gill, Rudi Hudson, Elijah McNamara and Orleanna Murray De Brossard won their division in a favorite Aussie past time, Lawn Bowls. They stood out for their gamemanship and cool heads under pressure. Congratulations to William Wong for representing Glen Eira College at the Regional Swimming Carnival. This year level is on fire!
The top 5 girls and boys for cross country were: Harriet Rowsell, Alexandra Wood-Freeman, Olivia Colletta, Erin McNaughton and Tanah Guntarik-Davis (girls), and, Raphael Nicolas, Ali Hussaini, Jay Trickey, Remi Griffiths and Matteo Leclerc (boys). A special mention to everyone who participated in cross-country and swimming. Even if you do not move on to the next stage, it’s important to have some fun with your peers.
We are delighted by the way the Year 7 students have transitioned into GEC. It would be great to see more involved in the SRC and school clubs. There is always lots going on, please make sure your son/daughter keeps informed by checking the student run website - GEC HUB or stopping by our office and asking. Lets keep this enthusiastic group of young people doing their best to juggle academic success with sport and extra-curricular activities. Get Organised, Get Focused, Get Involved!

Year 9
This year we have a very enthusiastic and engaged group of Year 9s who have been making their appearance known throughout several different activities for the college. Sport, Performing Arts, Open Night, Radio Club, College Tours and their overall academic education.
Currently in the Year 9 Program students are working on their market stalls in groups to help raise awareness for specific charities. They will sell products and then donate the profits to their desired charities. The next unit they will be covering will be focusing on their futures and career pathways. This is a very exciting time for our Year 9s and towards the end of term they will start making subject choices for their Year 10 studies. In week 2 of term 3 students will have an information session about Year 10 subject choices. Stay tuned.
In week 2 of this term we had an ANZAC Day ceremony where we had Jarrod Kiss (9B), Dhgual Leathley (9C) and Alexander Leathley (9D) present in uniform to support the soldiers who fought for our country. Well done.
9B exams will be held on Monday 18th June and Tuesday 19th June. All other Year 9 classes will run as normal.

From the Junior School Captains
On the last day of term 1, the school set off to Caulfield park to complete our cross country. This day was very enjoyable, and was a test of our endurance and fitness! Everyone who participated did an amazing job and earned points for their house. Congratulations to everyone who got through to the next round and good luck.
We are all looking forward to our inter-school sports later this term and wish all sporting teams the best of luck.
Congratulations to the year 8 girls and intermediate girls softball who are both progressing to the regionals stage in a couple of weeks. Good luck!

Since August 2016, the school was given money from the government for renovations. From that day, there have been workers all over the school. At the start of this term, the building works have finished and the school has had a complete makeover. The school looks brand new from the inside and out.
On the 2nd May we had the school Open Night. This was our chance to show possible future students and parents what GEC is about.

Later this term, our school will once again be participating in the Berthe Mouchette French poetry competition. This competition, which all French-learning students from Years 7-10 participate in, gives these students the chance to improve their knowledge of the language, and then show off these newly learned skills. This competition is not without reward, as the finalists can win a 6 week exchange trip to France. This competition is a great way to get students more involved in their French classes, and is overall a good experience to have completed.

At Glen Eira there are a variety of extra - curricular activities that we can get involved in. Some of these are; production, fun clubs like radio club and robotics club, cool competitions, exciting excursions and interesting learning opportunities. On the 19th of April, radio club hit the streets and went on air from 8-9am at the 88.3 southern FM radio station. This was great fun and we had a blast talking about what’s making news.
Every fortnight bookclub gets together in the library and has a meeting. At these meetings we discuss what books we are reading currently, new books that have come to the library and any book related events coming up in the near future. On the 9th May book club is heading into the city to buy new books for our library. This is now an annual event that is a highlight for all of the book clubbers.
There are so many amazing opportunities at Glen Eira to get involved in that are not academic. This makes it a fun and enjoyable place to be. There is something for everyone.
