A time to reflect...

“Would you drop the kids off at school this morning? I’ve got a lot of shopping to do ande rrands to run”.

“Well, I’ve got a pretty hectic day myself (sigh) …  OK I’ll do it.  But hurry, up kids!”

So Dad and his children jump into the car and they’re off. The busy father glances at his watch. “Why is traffic so slow this morning? Certainly people should drive safely, not speed, but this little old man in front of us must be sight-seeing! I’ll pass him as soon as I can...maybe I can take a short cut… Oh, no!!” Wouldn’t you know it! The car approaches a railroad crossing just as the lights begin to flash and the safety gate comes down. Dad’s first thought: “Darn it! We’re going to be held up by a train and be late.”

So, as Dad is fuming in the front seat, anxiously tapping his fingers on the steering wheel, reviewing, in his mind, how to make up some time, a sweet, childish voice calls out from the backseat: “Daddy, Daddy, we’re so lucky! We get to watch the train go by!”

Dear Parents

This week has been a very busy one around the Primary school as many important parent events have taken place. We really appreciate parents taking the time to attend the Year 4G Mass, Year 4 BYOD iPad Meeting, the Kindy 2018 Information Meeting and the Pre Primary 2018 Information Meeting. We also appreciate the time that staff spend preparing for these informative sessions and the time they provide at the end of their teaching days.

As we head towards the end of the term there is certainly a lot to celebrate. A great example of celebration and acknowledgement was the Primary Music Ensemble Concert which took place on Wednesday night in the Amphitheatre. This concert featured and celebrated the students’ learning for the year through many musical items. It is the last performance for some of our Year 6 students, and we especially thank them for their contribution to Music in the Primary School over many years. Thank you to Mr James Kros and all our Music staff and tutors who work very hard behind the scenes to make this event happen.

Presentation Night

Our College Presentation Evening will be held in the St Louis Sports Centre next Wednesday beginning at 7pm. As this is an important community event for our College, all students in Years 5-11 are expected to attend.

All Primary students are required to meet in the Thomas More Exhibition Centre by 6:30pm. Parents are to be seated by 6:45pm for a 7pm start.

Students are to wear their full school uniform and hair needs to be neat and tidy.

The Presentation Evening is scheduled to conclude at 9pm.

We look forward to seeing many families on the night.

The Year 3’s have been focusing on procedure writing. After learning about this genre the children wrote their own procedures for making fairy bread. 3B handed over their recipes to 3G so they could make the fairy bread! The recipes were all unique as each of everyone had their particular had preferences for fairy bread! They learnt how language must be precise (or they might not get enough sprinkles!) and how the steps must be in order, so others can follow it easily. Of course, they loved eating the final product!

YEAR 6 T20 BIG BASH CRICKET CARNIVAL

On Thursday 23 some of our Year 6 Boys and Girls participated in a Milo T20 Big Bash Cricket Carnival at Melvista Oval, Nedlands with teams from Loreto, Carmel and Sacred Heart. The students played four rounds each being the second time that the College had a girls’ team and they were terrific, winning one of their four games and very competitive in the other three. The boys had a fabulous day of cricket too - winning all four games by hitting numerous boundaries, especially sixes and capturing plenty opposition wickets. Many of the students held great catches and caused sensational run-outs from enthusiastic fielding. In each round all players face 6 deliveries, rotate through all fielding positions and each has an over to bowl.

Our players were highly competitive against all teams. Overall, it was a fantastic day for our 19 players who, I am sure, felt like they were a Perth Scorcher’s player, playing in the Big Bash League! A big thank you to Ms Ruth O’Donnell and Phebe Harvey (Instep student) for their assistance on the day. Thank you also to the many parents who came along to support the students.
