Acknowledging Our Volunteers

Last week we conducted a function to acknowledge the hard work of the many parent volunteers who add so much to the fabric of our College. On the morning of the function, our Business Manager, John Cumming and I attended a breakfast which focussed on leadership in the ‘Not for Profit Sector’. There were 200 guests at the breakfast with representatives from corporate and not for profit groups. Interestingly, all three speakers had a John XXIII College connection. Professor Bruce Robinson (former parent), James McMahon (current parent) and Christian Golding (alumni) discussed partnerships between the sectors and drew on experiences from the Fathering Project and John XXIII College.

We often borrow from the Jesuits and talk of developing our students as ‘men and women for others’. The breakfast was a classic example of committed adults using their skills and talents to help make the world a better place for others.

I told the story of the breakfast to our volunteers whilst acknowledging all our amazing parent helpers. The gift of time that we can give to our children and to their education is priceless. The rhetoric of ‘men and women for others’ is best exemplified through the positive actions of parents, teachers and other adults guiding the young people in our care. We are blessed to have so many parents willingly give of their time, expertise and wisdom.

Marketing Of The College

This year we have improved our marketing of the College through a strategic use of social media. Last week we were advised that our ‘Autumn Mornings’ video was successful in gaining an industry award.

Congratulations to all involved.

Together, let us seek justice.

Yours sincerely
