Principals Report

Term 3 - A Term of Celebration
I am not going to lie to you, I believe that most at the school were relieved to close the doors on Friday afternoon and head off for a well earned break, I include the kids in this. I had noticed in the last few days that they were looking a little weary. It has been a massive term and everyone has peddled pretty hard to ensure collective educational success.
Term 3 has been an incredible term with a continuous stream of student individual and collective representation, from both within the school and beyond our school gates. Our Debating, Dance, Agricultural and Sporting Teams, our Student Representative Council have all achieved recognition. We note outstanding demonstrations of individual excellence, with students representing internationally. At present some of our students are participating in qualification processes that could see them representing their school and community and country on the international stage into the future.
At Guyra Central School we are always seeking out partnerships, collaborations from within the community, and with external agencies, to provide best fit opportunities of excellence for each of our children. Personalised, future focused learning continues to be our mantra. Having a deep understanding of each child's dream, the aspirations that their parents, carers and community hold for them is certainly our goal. At Guyra Central School, from within our K-12 setting, we have the added privilege of educating all students within the family. During Term 4 I would like the opportunity to meet with your family to discuss your aspirations and the aspirations of your children. We are moving into our 2019 planning stage and it is important for us to know that we are allocating resources appropriately during 2019 and into the future. I will be contacting each family within the first few weeks of term and scheduling meetings with you all.
Friday was a very special day for Year 12 and their families. School life is an extensive journey for anyone and for our beautiful Year 12 students that time finished on Friday. In essence this is the beginning of the next big adventure for all of them. The Higher School Certificate is just one milestone in what will be a long list of achievements. I have told our students that if they do their best that will always be good enough and I have no doubt at all that 2018 cohort will certainly do that. Thank you to all of our Year 12 parents and families for the continued support of your children and of the school. For some of our families their association with the school finished on Friday and we would like to thank them for the great support that they have given us here at the school over the years. Thanks to our committed staff, both support and teaching personnel. It does make me extremely proud, as a Principal, to lead a team of such committed people. Not only, but especially, the devotion that has been shown to helping our Year 12 students achieve their best during these past months is inspirational. Early morning preparation, afternoon, evening and weekend tutorials. I can assure everyone if you travel past the school during the holidays you will see staff and student cars in the car park with students and teachers working hand in hand towards excellence. Thanks to all of these people.
It was my privilege to attend the opening of the Trout Festival Art Show on Friday evening. Congratulations to all of the winners and a big thank you to Lynne Chapman and her great team for creating the opportunity for our students and other community members to demonstrate their skills toa public audience. What a great night!
Providing a diverse range of opportunities for our students to demonstrate their passion/s and learning, within their preferred learning mode, is a priority for us here at the school. The Guyra Main Street Public Art Program has provided a collaborative environment for students and staff from Guyra Central School to engage in authentic, productive learning. Having the opportunity to produce artworks that will be integrated into the Guyra streetscape, while collaborating with industry professionals, is a privilege for all of us and I would like to thank our Mayor, Simon Murray and his team, for initiating this collaboration. Thank you to our art teacher, Clea Townend and her Year 11 team for leading this project from within the school. A full report of the project with photos will appear in our next edition.
Please travel safely if you are leaving Guyra with your family during school break. I are really looking forward to catching up with all of our families during Term 4. Please come and see me or call if there is anything that you would like to discuss.
Thanks
Michelle Nicholson
