YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE
Congratulations to all students who completed and or who are attending Structured Work Placements as a component of their VET studies. Many student’s were visited or at least a phone contact was made to host employers for those who were in trade areas or on the road as part of the placement. One student was lucky enough to secure a placement with the St Kilda Football Club.

VTAC KEY DATES
During the month of August 2018 Mrs Pike and Ms Bell will be running hands on application workshops for Year 12 students and family members.

YEAR 12 - UMAT EXAM DATE
WHEN Wednesday July 25 WHERE Test Centre = Mildura Senior College
REQUIREMENTS Photo ID
Students who have previously registered to sit this exam for Medical entrance pre requisites are to attend this exam, failure to do so will result in not meeting the entrance requirements for Medical courses. Please note Physiotherapy and Nursing applications DO NOT need to sit this exam.
ARRIVE ON TIME Candidates should arrive at the test centre (Mildura Senior College) at the arrival time given on their Admission Ticket. Candidates that report to the centre after all candidates have been seated may not be admitted. No latecomers can be admitted once the test has started.
EAT SOME BRAIN FOOD Before reporting to the test centre do not forget to eat a meal. Depending on the arrival time of your designated test session, you may also wish to eat a small snack before you go into the test room. You will not be allowed to take any food or drink, other than bottled water, into the test room.
THE FORMAT The UMAT test consists of 3 hours testing time, plus 10 minutes reading time. All questions are presented in one test book and there are no rest breaks. You may use the bathroom during testing time, but this will not be permitted in the last ten minutes of the test. No additional time will be granted for bathroom breaks.
TEST QUERIES Candidates that wish to query a particular test question on the day of the test should alert the supervisor of their concern and submit a written note before leaving the test centre. Queries will be reviewed by the UMAT Office and candidates will be notified of the outcome. Similarly, any complaints relating to the testing venue or physical discomfort suffered should be reported immediately to the supervisor on the test day so the issue can be addressed without delay.
UMAT is a high stakes test administered under secure test conditions. You may not leave the test centre before the full testing time has elapsed. Candidates leaving early will not receive their UMAT scores. Once a candidate has departed the test centre it is not possible to re-enter and continue the test.
TRAVELLING Care should be taken when making return travel arrangements to allow adequate time at the test centre. You should anticipate being at the test centre for up to 5 hours.
UMAT is a high stakes test. Therefore ACER, in conjunction with the UMAT Consortium universities, has established security procedures which will be strictly enforced at all times.
LA TROBE MILDURA OPEN DAY - AUGUST 15
This year’s Open Day will be bigger and better than ever. This year we have updated the information sessions and will now provide students with the option to feel what University is really like. Students can participate in nursing simulations, navigate the stock market, use robots to learn about teaching methods, create a work of art or develop their very own business plan.
There will be fantastic catering from Verdict, free coffee and opportunities to win prizes.
Students need to ‘Plan Their Day’ and register for the sessions their interested in so they don’t miss out.

VTAC INFORMATION EVENING
The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) will be holding a FREE information evening in Mildura. REGISTER HERE

MELBOURNE CAREERS EXPO
Free passes for Years 10 to 12 students who wish to attend the Spot Jobs Melbourne Career Expo . Saturday July 21 to Sunday July 22, 10am -4pm. With 150 expo exhibitors this event will encompass all career opportunities from employment to education and training in the trades, corporate and professional sectors.
Career Development Association of Australia (CICA) will run free workshops on various topics. They will also offer free resume checking service and career counselling throughout the event. Please see Ms Bell for tickets.
