PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

A WORLD OF POSSIBILITY
Greetings and welcome to Term 3 of the 2018 school year. I hope that everyone stayed warm and enjoyed a well-deserved winter’s break. Maybe you had a ‘stay-cation.’ No matter the season, there’s so much to see and do in our community. Visitors from all over the world visit Sunraysia throughout the year. In many respects, the world is getting smaller and smaller every day.
Places once thought distant are now remarkably close. I recently visited the Xiaguan No 1 Middle School in Dali City in the Yunnan province of China. The purpose of the trip was to finalise our involvement in a program that will provide chances for students from Australia and China to broaden their horizons by visiting a sister school with a shared love of learning and proud traditions of academic excellence.
The program is open to students from St Joseph’s College Mildura, Red Cliffs, and Merbein P-10. Students who take part in the program will enhance their student experience by acquiring greater language skills along with a heightened awareness of the historical and cultural aspects of the societies which they visit. Beyond the value to our students, the program will also benefit the greater Sunraysia community by creating long-term opportunities for co-operation between the citizens of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture and Mildura. Indeed, the program could be a part of bringing our two countries closer together in the spirit of learning and co-operation.
Thirteen enthusiastic students from Dali will soon be visiting the College. If you are interested in the hosting one or two of these delightful young people for a week please speak with Dr Tony Finn.
As we enter Term 3, let’s keep the fire of knowledge alight. May our desire to learn keep us curious to learn about the world around us, regardless of the barriers of distance or language. God has given us a world full of possibility.
God Bless,
Mrs Marg Blythman
