Industrial Technology Metal 2017

Thursday 31 August the students from Year 12 Industrial Technology Class presented their Major Design projects for HSC assessment and then in the evening the works were showcased for parents, staff and students.
Work on the projects started during Term 4, 2016 and after many hours of designing and constructing (including weekends and after school) the work was finally finished. Projects included Harry Logan's Room Divider that transformed into a bar with a lift of the top on custom hinges. Stuart Vanderland created a stunning steel bed featuring hand bent flat steel. Will Buchanan produced an electric steel guitar that, when played, produces a rich sound across the scale. A floor lamp, from Jaydan Edwards, uses over 100 aluminium scales and a lining of gold leaf to soften the light. Fireside comfort and an escape from the wind were provided by Liam Neilson’s fire pit and wind break. He used a rusting effect to highlight his plasma cut drawing of the Australian landscape. A crashed plane in the jungle provided the inspiration for a desk made by Tristan Oakman. Looking past the aluminium, the frame of the ‘wing’ is visible. Plate Maille is an ancient craft and was chosen by Casey Heffernan to exhibit his skills with metal on a smaller scale. Each plate in the Gauntlet is riveted to the next for articulation. The industrial look of Ryan Nicolle’s scissor lift will blend perfectly into his workshop, allowing him to work on his bike at a comfortable height.
Overall the boys are to be congratulated on their hard work and dedication over the last year.
