DIOCESAN BASKETBALL IN ALBURY 2017

On Tuesday 29th August, three basketball teams travelled to the Lauren Jackson Stadium in Albury to compete in the Diocesan Basketball Carnival.

Junior Girls

The Year 7 and 8 girls team started as a group of ten. The team comprised of mainly netball players with only one basketballer in the group. The girls trained with eagerness and determination and felt they had developed an understanding of the game. Illness hit the group and on the morning of the carnival only 8 players stepped onto the bus to make the journey to Albury. The first game was against the old foe Mater Dei Catholic College and although the girls contested well, the basketball players on the opposition proved to be the difference and the KCC team lost  28 to 13. Another of the team succumbed to illness leaving only 7 players to complete the carnival. Lou Madden also injured her right hand but admirably played on, finding that basketball is a bit tough when you try and play with only one hand. Our second game was against Xavier, a basketball powerhouse and they displayed their strength defeating KCC  57 to 14. In the final game, our girls started to tire and the St Francis team dominated the scoreboard with a strong win 63-11.

Well done to all the girls, particularly Madeleine Commins who led the team and scored most of our points. A big thank you to Mr Siegwalt, who not only drove the bus but also managed the bench and provided invaluable coaching tips.
