Blackmores Fun Run with Centacare
At our recent Year 11 Reflection Day No. 2 that focused upon building resilience, a guest presenter from “Soldier On” provided some reflections about how some members of the armed services find difficulty in transitioning to civilian life. The organisation “Soldier On” provides mentoring and support for serving personnel who leave the services and find it difficult fitting back into society, with many having experienced traumatic incidents during their service of the nation.
As a sign of support for their work, St Pius X College provided a donation to “Soldier On” so that they can continue their vital work in our community.

On Sunday 15 September a large number of students from Years 10 and 11 participated in the Blackmores Running Festival held in the city. This fun run was completed not only for enjoyment, but in the service to Centacare – an organisation of CatholicCare who provide sustainable and meaningful employment for adults with an intellectual disability. Earlier in the year the young men of Pius worked alongside the Centacare-funded employees, completing tasks with their assigned buddy for the day. As a follow up they then had to register and raise funds for Centacare by obtaining sponsors for the Blackmores Running Festival.
We were greeted with a gorgeous Sydney morning as we waited at the start line and re-connected with the employees who we had worked with earlier in the year. While not a complete 42km marathon, the 3.5km Family Fun Run provided a great opportunity to view the harbour from the Harbour Bridge at a more leisurely pace. Our young men set a fine example of all that we aspire to.
Congratulations to all and we look forward to many more years of living out our faith and mission here at St Pius X College through supporting Centacare.
