Prep News

Welcome, Prep families to Term 3! The students have returned to school very settled and well rested after the two week holiday break. They have shared with each other what they got up to during the holidays and it was pleasing to observe that many enjoyed relaxing at home and playing with their toys.

Today is Day 95 as we count towards 100 Days of Prep. Monday 30th July is the magic 100th Day of Prep and the teachers and students are looking forward to a fun day celebrating this most important milestone.

During Terms 3 and 4 the students will participate in Art lessons with Mrs Claire Tennant and Italian lessons with Signora Daniela Caruana each Monday. Sports uniform needs to be worn on a Wednesday as P.E. lessons with Mr Jennings will be held on that day. Library for PEM is now on a Tuesday and PLW will have a library session on a Thursday. Please remember to return library books on your child's library bag.

Last week was a great opportunity for the Prep students to revisit what it means to be a good friend and to discuss how important it is not to be bossy to others. They have identified ways to show friendship to others and to be inclusive of everyone during our whole school WOW Week which focused on friendship.

Year 1/2 News

Welcome back to Term 3. The Year 1 /2 students have settled in extremely well. They were excited to share their holiday experiences with their friends.

During the first week, the students have been focussing on friendship and what makes a good friend. They have been making friendship ‘recipes’ and singing friendship songs. Term 3 will be busy with lots of learning and new experiences. Looking forward to a great term with your children.

Year 3/4 News

Welcome back to Term 3! We hope all families had a restful holiday break and managed to find some quiet time to rejuvenate themselves.

Last week was WOW Week with our focus being on relationship skills. The students read books and participated in activities that highlighted such things as how we make friends, working in teams and the ways we deal with conflict. They also examined ways to manage their emotions, particularly at times when things do not go as planned. These very important life skills will remain a focus for us throughout the term and we hope that the students will learn some of the valuable skills that are so important for positive, happy relationships with others.

Year 5/6 News

The students have come back from the Term 2 holidays very refreshed and settled and they have been working well this week.

This week, we have been looking at friendship in our WOW week (Week of Wonder) and discussing what makes a good friend and what doesn't. We also studied the meaning of empathy, putting yourself in someone else's shoes and thinking about others' feelings. The students have enjoyed listening to picture stories about friendship and completing interactive activities about the important skill of getting along with others.

In Maths we have started our new topic of Multiplication and Division and

the written and mental strategies needed to solve various equations and challenging word problems.

In Literacy, we are investigating using dynamic dialogue in our narratives using the seven steps program and various forms of poetry including using metaphor, similes and personification in our writing. Grammar, punctuation and comprehension skills continue to be a focus this term.

Our Inquiry/R.E. unit, is, 'How can we adapt?'

The students have completed a drawing of their idea/image of what they understand the Holy Spirit is and completed a pre assessment of what they think the understandings of the unit mean. We will be studying how people adapt to various challenges that they face in life and how we can use our dispositions such as being persistent, open-minded and flexible to help overcome stressful situations we all come across. The students will also learn about resilience, and various techniques such as meditation that can help them adapt.

The 5/6 students are also focusing on the Sacrament of Confirmation, what it means to be confirmed, how we can use the Gifts and Fruits of the Holy Spirit, Mary Mackillop's life and of course the Confirmation Candidates will be preparing for this Sacrament which is on Friday the 17th of August.

Reminder: Please return the Year 6 Retreat/Excursion Day form asap and the Confirmation candidates information/card form asap.
