AMEB exams present an excellent opportunity to develop expression and technique as a performer and to receive feedback from acclaimed musicians. These students should be commended for their fantastic results.

Ensembles Showcase Concert

On Thursday 30th August our woodwind, brass and string students presented an evening concert in St Eugene’s. This concert also featured three of our ensembles - the Wind Ensemble, Chamber Ensemble and the Catholic Inter-Primary Schools (CIPS) Band.

The CIPS Band kicked off proceedings, allowing audience members to see the youngest members of our music program in action. This band, which features some of the most talented musicians from Wagga’s Catholic primary schools presented five fun pieces. Isabel Humphries (flute), Manissa Chamberlain (flute) and Harry Guymer (trumpet) all presented solos and Abel Anwar (saxophone) presented an item backed by his friends Noyal Tharayil, Dan Osgood and Sam Campbell-McCrea. The Chamber Ensemble and Wind Ensemble then concluded the concert with performances fresh from their eisteddfod successes.

Well done to all of the performers and a big thank you to all of the parents and supporters who turned out to ensure a huge audience.

Wagga Eisteddfod

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Wagga Eisteddfod this week. On Wednesday the Year 7 Rock Band, Groove and Heatstroke performed in the Modern Pop and Rock section at Generocity Church. It was a great experience with other bands from Junee High School and Wagga Wagga Christian College also performing at a very high standard. Groove was Highly Commended for their performance of “Jessie’s Girl”. The adjudicator was impressed by the talent of each of the players and also Groove’s ability to play complex rhythms so well together. Year 7 Rock Band also blended well as a group. Heatstroke were commended for their originality.

On Thursday, the Chamber Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Scratch and the Year 10 Music Class performed in a variety of sections at the Wagga Eisteddfod. The Chamber Ensemble played “Thinking Out Loud” in tune and together. Scratch gave an outstanding performance of “Frankenstein” and “Take Five” and their ‘really fine skilled playing’ was noted by the adjudicator. Each of the students in the Year 10 Music class were congratulated for their ‘musical expressiveness’ and placed second in the High School Ensemble section. Wind Ensemble came home victorious in the same section being awarded first for their performance of “My Shot” from Hamilton. Their ‘neat entries’ and ‘warm and sonorous’ sound left an impression.

Our students were a supportive and attentive audience for the performances of other bands and ensembles and they appreciated the outstanding talent and hard work of their peers from other local schools. It has been a pleasure to work with the students of Kildare and they have represented the college in an exemplary way.

Well done!
