State Dance Festival

State Dance Festival 2016

In Week 9 Term 3 Cowra High Stage 5 Dance Students, members of the State Dance Ensemble and the NSW Public Schools State Aboriginal Dance Company performed in ‘Transcendence’ at the Seymour Centre, Sydney.

'Transcendence' presented works by 1,500 students from Kindergarten to Year 12. The festival showcased these artists in six diverse performance programs throughout the week-long festival. The programs highlight the range of styles explored through the study of Dance in public schools.

Each performance reveals the determination of students and teachers to explore the art of dance and to achieve performances of the highest quality. These are underpinned by technical training, stamina, creativity, confidence, co-operation and respect for one another fostered by their dedicated and talented teachers.

Cowra High Schools Stage 5 Dance performed ‘Hold Tight’ in front of a sell-out crowd on Thursday 15 September, one of the only non-Performing Arts Schools to be show cased on this night.  ‘Hold Tight’ was created using the elements of composition as a way of expressing and communicating.

Stage 5 Dance explores how you achieve so much more when you are lifted and encouraged by others around you. “Stay strong, hold on and try!" Congratulations to Brigette Healy, Nicola Carter, Chloe Fricker, Victoria King, Millie Casey, Maisie Thompson, Erika Sullivan, Jemima Sullivan and Lucy Jones.

The State Dance Ensemble members Nicola Carter, Chloe Fricker, Hope Martin-Edgar and Francesca Fenton performed with students from across the state in ‘Wild Woods’ choreographed by Anouska Gannon. This piece explores the Wild Woods and the fairytale ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. The girls performed on Thursday & Friday evenings and were a credit to our school.

NSW Public Schools Aboriginal Dance Company is comprised of selected students from across the state. Cowra High students Jesse Murray and Imajen James performed in a piece titled ‘Ceremony’ which was choreographed by Bangarra Dance Company as a tribute to David Page.

Congratulations to all performers and a special thank you to Prue Williams for driving the bus.

Well done to all,
