St Vincent de Paul Certificate of Recognition

We have been fortunate to receive a Certificate of Recognition from St Vincent de Paul’s Bathurst Western Conference for our support of its ‘Treat the Land’ campaign. The campaign has helped drought-stricken communities in Western NSW, which the College proudly supported through last year’s Drought Appeal. We look forward to continuing this partnership with ‘Vinnies’ through our Hamper Appeals, and of course our Matthew Talbot Hostel program, where students volunteer to serve meals to the homeless on a weekly basis.

Project Compassion

Halfway through the Lenten period the College has once again shown its commitment to almsgiving, demonstrating both humility and generosity through Project Compassion. Particular thanks must go to 9HR3, 6 Blue, 12HR2, 7HR3 and 5 Red, leading the way and showing a commitment to helping those who are less fortunate.

Mercy College Chapel Mass and Alpha Students' Blessing

St Pius X College was well represented at the Mercy College Chapel Mass on Tuesday morning by College Captain Oliver Tysoe, College Prefect Chris Pelle, Tom Connaghan from Year 8, Ronan Crispe and Harrison Pierides from Year 9. This Eucharistic Celebration held between the two communities is a powerful demonstration of our ‘Unity in Community’ theme.  Harrison and Ronan were involved in the Mass, reading the Prayers of the Faithful.

At the conclusion of the Mass Fr John gave a blessing to the students participating in the Alpha course next term.

The last Chapel Mass will be led by Mr Ticli's Year 8 RE class in the SPX Brothers Chapel on Tuesday 9 April.  All are welcome for the 8.00am commencement.

Legacy Week - Service of our Students Recognised

At assembly on Monday thirteen of our Year 11 boys were acknowledged for their contribution to Legacy Week last year.  These boys who sell the badges in the busy interchange of Chatswood Station and the Mall raise much needed funds supporting our veterans, their families and the families of the fallen.  The students represent the college admirably and do Legacy a great service.

Greg Wrate, President of Sydney Legacy, personally attends Chatswood Station and Mall on the mornings that our boys sell badges and always comments on how impressed he is with our students and their respectful nature.  The students listed below have rightly been recognised for their service to legacy and their representation of the College - thank you boys!  Students from Year 10  will again be called on to support Legacy Week later in this year.

Liam Benson, Louis Brockwell, Jake Cetinich, Nathan Constantino, Jonathon Dellagiacoma, Daniel Giulambrian, Paul Manga Zoa, Luke McManus, Nicholas McKenzie, Ryan Pratt, Bailey Sutton, Lucas Wareham and Anton Webber.

The abundance of opportunities that this College allows for selfless giving and service to the community is impressive and our students always respond with generosity, respect and pride.  Next week at Monday's assembly representatives from The Salvation Army will address our students and present an opportunity for them to participate through service in the Red Shield Appeal. I anticipate our boys will again respond in great numbers and answer the sound of duty calling.

Easter Liturgy Preparation

Several of our Year 11 students, along with students from Mercy College, have been rehearsing and learning their lines for our Easter Liturgies to be held in Our Lady of Dolours Church during Pers 3 and 5 next Thursday 11 April. This will also be performed for the Mercy College student body on Tuesday morning in the church.  This liturgy will be a moving portrayal of The Passion of Christ from John’s Gospel.

The dramatisation is coming together as a powerful collaboration between students from Mercy College and our own students and the SPX performing arts department, with Ms Waters involving our talented and beautifully voiced staff and student choir with some appropriate and technical solemn laments, one sung in the original Latin.  We believe this Liturgy will be a poignant and contemplative expression for our staff and students to pause and reflect over in the lead up to Easter.

The photos below show Mercy and St Pius X College students performing the Passion Play on Good Friday in 2018.
