Principal's Report

Wow! We had a great start to the week with Matt Fregon State Member for the Mount Waverley District and John Mullahy from the Electoral Office, attend our assembly to present our Foundation students with their new Library Bag which included four terrific books: ‘The Dress Up Box’ by Patrick Guest/Nathaniel Eckstrom ‘Hello from Nowhere’ by Raewyn Caisley/Karen Blair ‘Where is Galah?’ by Sally Morgan  ‘Silver Buttons’ by Bob Graham and ‘Edward the Emu’ by Sheena Knowles.

Thank you for your patience regarding our ‘Student of the Week’, it will now be known as the ‘Student Achievement Award’.

The staff have been working on reviewing the purpose of the award and have decided to connect aspects of the Personal and Social Capability continuum which is part of the Victorian Curriculum with a student’s academic achievement in their learning.

Awards will be presented each week, one from each class and each specialist teacher will nominate one student for the week, this will begin on Monday 2nd March.

Congratulations to Ben, Emmett and Tom who have qualified for the Divisional Swim Carnival to be held early next month. Syndal South had 14 participants in the District trials, held at Huntingtower Aquatic Centre yesterday. Huge thanks to parents Kirsten and Alex for assisting on the day.

Go Syndal!

G.A.T.E. (Gifted and Talented Education) WAYS will once again be offering students a variety of programs throughout the year. The programs are designed to provide gifted and talented children with opportunities for challenge and extension with a group of ‘like-minded’ peers. If you would like your child to access such programs you should visit the Gateways website to find out about the programs on offer  https://www.gateways.edu.au/.

The school does participate in the Team Challenges that Gateways offer later in the year, more information regarding this will be available later.

Finally, I would like to remind you of the Welcome Gathering tomorrow night starting at 5.30pm, with games and activities starting at 6.30pm.  BYO chairs, dinner and drinks.  BBQ sausages will be available for $2.  See you all there.
