Year 3/4 News

Now that’s a wrap! It is hard to believe that we are in week 10 of term 3. The students have worked very hard this term and have achieved a great deal. The students have shared their learning below.

Maths

I enjoyed learning my multiplication facts and using them to compete in mini races with my class. Frank 3/4BF

I have enjoyed learning about fractions. Fractions are part of a whole and they can be in the form of a decimal. You must always remember a fraction is a number! Alex 3/4LM

I have learnt that division is the inverse operation of multiplication and that if you’re ever stuck on a division worded problem you can just use your multiplication facts to find the answer! - Christian 3/4KD

Religion

I enjoyed finding out about the many spirit filled people we have in our community and I also learnt about the different fruits of the Holy Spirit and how we can use these in our daily lives. Charlie 3/4BF

I learnt that everybody can be a spirit filled person and help our community by showing kindness. I feel I have the fruit of love because I am always thinking of others. Alice 3/4LM

I discovered that anyone can be a spirit-filled person. If we all help each other, show kindness, empathy and respect by treating others the way we would like to be treated and if  we do good for others and for our world - then we are spirit-filled because we are showing God’s love. - Nakita 3/4KD.

Inquiry

I enjoyed running our class restaurant, Mangia Mangia, because we cooked different Italian foods and then served them to our parents and friends. Ned 3/4BF

I enjoyed designing and planning our class restaurant ‘Carnival in the Kitchen’. My favourite part was seeing our families enjoying the food. - Max 3/4LM

I enjoyed designing, creating, and running our class restaurant ‘Welcome Amigos’ because it was so much fun and I discovered that you have to collaborate and work as a team in order to be successful.  - Erica 3/4KD

Literacy

I enjoyed writing restaurant reviews on the restaurant I visited for our excursion, Dumplings Plus, and also on my favourite restaurant I go to with my parents, Cornerstone. Eve 3/4BF

I have learnt that when you infer you need to use the information from the text and your background knowledge to make an inference. Cynthia Kachi 3/4LM

During Bookweek, I enjoyed reading some of the Shortlisted books for the 2019 CBCA awards and I also enjoyed he author visits from Michael Wagner and the hilarious Kym Lardner - Jules 3/4KD

Year 5/6 News

The 5/6 students have learnt many new things this term. The focus for Inquiry, "Let's get down to business"! Would you buy that? was an important part of this terms learning that proved to be very exciting and engaging for the students. They learnt about all aspects of running a small business including; ideas for a product or service that would attract customers, budgets, how to make a profit, designing a logo, slogan and jingle that is catchy and memorable and how to present an interesting, creative pitch.

Along with business skills, the students had to learn to collaborate, persist, delegate tasks and be a reliable and responsible group member to ensure their groups business plan was complete for the class Shark Tanks which were held last Wednesday. The teachers were very impressed with each businesses pitch and the enthusiasm and creativity the students had when they presented their ideas for the school Christmas Market in November.

Two groups were chosen from each class to present at the SLA Shark Tank which will be held tomorrow afternoon. Good luck to each business.

We hope all teachers, families and students have a well earned rest, safe school holidays and come back ready for the busy last term of learning at St Fidelis for 2019.
