Shield Mural

As a group, the Year 5 Art Extension group, Art Captains and Vice Captains discussed how shields were used by Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

That they were traditionally used as symbols of power and for protection and for important ceremony. However, after the European arrival shields were more often used as a canvas to experiment on and express their response to the new settlers.

The group then created their own shield designs. They were asked to make a group and combine designs to deliver a collaborative piece. The teams worked so wonderfully as shown by the masterpieces exhibited.
