Year 5 News

Over the past fortnight, the Year 5's have enjoyed a variety of exciting experiences including Interschool Sports, the House Swimming Carnival and Art Installation.

For our Literacy and Inquiry focus, the students have been examining perspectives and how this can affect an individual’s actions. With our Unit of Inquiry guiding us, we have explored the techniques and elements of Persuasive Writing.

During our Maths lessons, the Year 5's have been focusing on Number and Algebra, with a deeper exploration into factors, multiples, triangular, square, prime and composite numbers.

The Year 5 students had a presentation on Tuesday led by Sheridan Duffy Fainu'u from the Wellbeing Team. The students discussed the brain and their response to feelings in the body. Across the school, we have been developing an understanding of self-regulation, triggers and responses and actions that can help bring them back to the sense of calm.

Please enjoy these recounts about the first half of our Term from some of our students.

I loved being part of the art installation because art is a passion I love. These last few weeks we have been doing shields to represent the aboriginal people that were on this land before us. Today, we had a smoking ceremony and we used wood and leaves to make a lot of smoke. All the shields looked amazing. I can’t wait to see what we will be doing next.

I have really, really enjoyed art installation! Art is my favourite subject and I loved an extra two hours of it every week. Who wouldn't want their art put up around the school! Every Friday I got to be creative. We did painting and drawing.

This term I have really enjoyed interschool sports. Training and playing Oz-tag with my team. We have gone to a couple of parks to play other schools and have yet to be defeated. Thanks to our amazing coach Mrs Hall. We also have a fantastic team.

This week we had a smoking ceremony. It was really fun and interesting. David Tournier was the person who was there and who taught us about his tribe/people. David had a firepit and had a bunch of bamboo leaves that got off a tree at school. He lit the fire and was using some instruments. It was great fun.
